After a 3 or 4 block drive I shut truck off for 1/2 hour or so. Went to start and got this no start situation acting like it was either flooded or vapor lock. New battery, new alternator...did act like a flat spot in starter a couple of tries but otherwise normal starter action. I let it sit for about another fifteen minutes...tried and it started right up? I have been told this is a problem with the distributor cap & rotor going bad and is a common problem. Is this correct? If so, how is this corrected. Does the whole distributor have to be replaced? Rebuilt? Does just the distributor cap and rotor need replaced?
Batt and Alt less than three months old.
Thanks for being there. D

j cAT, I think I got that mileage confused with the 68 Camaro he traded for it. This truck I think is a work truck K 1500 ? used locally only. Original engine w/very low miles, always garaged. I'll get that mileage when I can reach him he's on a job at the moment. Has other vehicle for use. I am merely curious of the distributor question(s) as I am not familiar with these engines but it is TBI. Distributor in the back under air cleaner housing.

with no engine run you go thru the basic checks if it is an original setup.
spark / fuel / tbi injectors operating.
remove the dist cap /rotor inspect for damage. check the ICM wiring and you could have this tested at an autozone If the one near you has the wells module tester. also the ignition coil check for proper resistance . this is available on the internet as to the spec or a manual.

Owner just got back to me on this. Job done by garage was new rotor and distributor cap. both of these parts were corroded severely. The actual mileage is 37,248. Still for a 96 is quite low. It is a K 1500 model. Thanks to all who posted replies.
