Ferrari F12berlinetta

Fujimi's new Ferrari F12berlinetta. I didn't obsess over this one too much, I have the DX version coming soon, so this was more of a practice-run to find out what's what.

Painted Gunze #8 silver, clearcoated w/U-Pol. Interior black & tan, as configured on Ferrari's site.

Overall it's a decent kit, they really simplified the suspension/chassis, the engine detail is okay, but no radiator. The seat cushions molded to the floor...:jerking:, the doors that are open or closed but don't function, ride height in front is a bit suspect, don't follow the directions for adding the headlight buckets after the fascia is glued in place, as they'll never fit w/o completely cutting away the mounting tab. Taillight pins are stupid and unnecessary. Side mirror mounting tabs are too small and poorly molded. The door skins needed some block sanding to get the surface level w/the rest of the body, primarily on the passenger side. A lot of the P/E is kind of wasted, the plastic brakes painted look more realistic than P/E.

Anyway, now I know what needs to be done to make the DX version really sing. And I am happy to have an F12 built so soon! I have yet to build a 599..a GTO is coming soon.

Thanks for all those tips!
I hope I can start mine pretty soon as well.

What is different on the DX compared to this kit?

What is a DX?

And the build looks great, Just the frond end seems to fit a bit strange to me, Appart from that amazing build!

nice F12 you have there!
apart from the front bumper, everything is good! and the paint job is flawless too!!

i suppose DX stands for DeluXe version of fujimi's kit, basically just more PE added, nothing much difference..the original kit comes with some PEs too..

That looks pretty darn good to me... I hope mine comes out anything remotely as clean! The tips are really helpful, too...

Thanks! DX = deluxe version of the kit, with more P/E and a sheet of metal transfers. This kit has a pretty good sheet of P/E already, though I only used a couple pieces. The brake rotors don't need the P/E, since Ferraris run carbon ceramic rotors, paint will look better than P/E and they're well-engraved. The DX version has 4-piece P/E layered rotors all around. You can see the differences if you look at HLJ or Hobby Search.

I want to try my hand at making hinges for the doors on my next one.

Bob all your builds are just perfect. The photography looks professional every time. i know you build for Scaleauto, but do you take the pics yourself? If so what camera and lighting setup do you use? Sorry if it got asked before.

Thanks for sharing this beauty. Not a big fan of different colors on ferraris but this silver looks so sexy on it.

Perfect paint, Bob. Other than that the model doesn't really win: stance and tires like a wannabe-SUV (e.g. CrossPolo, but even that one has lower profile tires). But that is, of course, not your fault.

You should really lower the ride height on your next build, though.

Thanks! I have a fairly common Canon S3 IS point & shoot, and a photo box made of white plexiglass, a white sheet over the top, and I use poster board or canson paper for a backdrop. I have a black illustration board w/a piece of white that I can use to get some reflected light into the sides as necessary.

I have four drafting lamps with flood lights, and one spotlight. I'm going to replace them soon with daylight correct fluorescent bulbs.

Thanks, I will definitely make sure the second one sits properly. I'll probably stretch some Pegasus Michelin Pilot Sports over the rims. As I said, this one was more of a quick practice build.

I got to see this in person and say it is pretty darn good for a simple "practice build" that would have taken me months!!!!!!!!!!

Cant wait to see the real build.

Err... SUV tyres?

I don't want to hijack Bob's thread, but the numbers speak for themselves:

The F12 Berlinetta has specific Pilots, with a spec quoted in the instructions and easily found online.

Fronts:
255/35 ZR20

In scale:
255/24 = 10.62mm
255*35% = 89.25, 89.25/24= 3.8mm
20” = 508mm 508mm/24 = 21mm

Fujmi tyre:
Width 11mm
Height 3.5mm
Diameter 21.5mm
Which translates to a scale 265/32 R20

Rears:
315/35 ZR20

In scale:
315/24 = 13.1mm
315*35% = 110.25, 110.25/24= 4.6mm
20” =21 mm

Fujimi rear tyre:
Width 13.5mm
Height 4mm
Diameter 21.5mm

Which translates to a scale 325/30 R20

The Fujimi tyres are MAYBE 5% off, but in dimensions it's tenths of a millimetre, and I'm measuring flexible vinyl tyres with a ruler and a magnifying glass, so I wouldn't guarantee a few tenths myself. More importantly, if they are off, they are LOWER profile than the real things, not too big!

bestest,
M.

Good looking Ferrari there Bob.

Matt > Please note rims dimension is referred to the inner part, hence the flange height (2x) must be added to obtain the overall diameter of the visible part:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a163/RJ1108/Various/rim.jpg

I scaled a sectional drawing found on the web and the flange height should be approx 20 mm. Which means a total rim diameter of 548 mm.

548 : 24 = 22.83 mm **** Fujimi rims are 22.15 mm

Anyway undersized and the entire assembly looks incorrect, I agree with Sebastian.

Bob > Very nice job ...and sorry for polluting your thread.

Beautiful build!! I'm not much for the front ride height but it still works for me. :sunglasse
