Anyone know where i can get a set of brushes for a 90 Le Baron conv. top motor/pump? If not... size of brushes etc. Thanks.

If they're simply worn out you can get a little more life outta them by inserting a small wad of tin foil rolled up in a ball between the brush and the brush holder spring. If you remove the remaining brushes and size them up you can get slightly larger ones and file them down to size to match yours. They're square and made of soft carbon and will file down very easily with a wide,flat file sitting on a flat surface. Google "Eurton Electric/ Electric Motors".They make brushes of all sizes.
Ya need to check the motor commutator to see if it's not under cut too badly or rough. You can polish it up with strips of emery paper if it's not too bad. A rough commutator will eat up new brushes rapidly. In which case the motor will have to be rebuilt or replaced. HTH

Thanks DeltaP for the info. I would like to replace them as one side is only about a 1/16 th in length while the other is about 3/16 long. Don't no why one would wear more than the other. Do you know how long the new brushes were or should be?

They wear out mostly due to the condition of the commutator and how much load is applied to them,(heat). A rough commutator will wear them out faster. One may wear faster than the other due to weak brush holder spring tension or an accumulation of dirt,(carbon),residue in the holder causing a brush to stick and burn. Worn bearings can also cause this sometimes. As for length I would guess by measuring the height from the commutator to the top of the brush holder and add a few millimeters. Don't forget to arc file the commutator end of the brush to seat faster and arc less. That'll keep the heat and wear,(residue), down. Poor seating will make them burn and maybe even loose motor output power initially.

I might add: Measure them with a caliper. You can even use the same caliper to measure the height of the holder. And chamfer the corners of the brush with the file so there's room for carbon debris to pass or collect without jamming up the brush holder and the brush will have less a tendancy to 'cock' and stick in the holder.
