Hood retention

Started a new thread here, Didn't want to hi-jack Brian's thread. Anyway...
Those are hood supports that had thread-in rubber bumpers... never seen one that didn't have them so someone cut yours off. Many of us converted them to pins to reduce the hood buffeting that is prevalent on the plastic-bodied cars.

I am really, REALLY, starting to wonder what I have then. There is no evidence they ever existed on my car, unless somebody cut them off, ground the rest perfectly smooth, and re-powder coated the frame rails. Maybe because I have chassis #10 (10th GTRA ever made?) and they didn't figure out they needed them yet? IDK.
Mine is a fiberglass bodied car. Could that make a difference? Hood pin? WONDERFUL! I just finished an extensive graphics package on the hood. Oh well, better that; then have the whole thing fly off.

Could one of you guys please measure how tall your rods/supports are without the pin/bump-stop please? I have some fabricating to do.

This is rare... don't tell my mother or my wife... but it appears I was wrong. Here's a picture from Eric's album of his fiberglass bodied GTWC... no supports. Guess it's something they added for the plastic cars.

You guys could be on to something. The fiberglass is a lot more rigid then the plastic.

Do you have any of the aero problems the plastic cars have? Hood buffeting and/or lifting at speed?

Mark, same problems, no numbers on my frame, had #10 on the school log book that came with the car. Its a real early car too. The hood seems to stay down at speed, but haven't had it on big oval or real long straight, just the 5.0 stock. Safety pins at the back might not be a bad idea.. Bill

Thanks Bill. I suppose i am trying to postpone the inevitable. A local shop we work with offered to do several thousand dollars worth of graphics on the car and I leapt at the chance, never figuring that hood retention would be an issue. Now it appears i will have to drill holes through the hood for hood pins, right in the middle of his killer graphics work.. UHG!!! it is what it is.
