The top one is very easy :grinyes:, the bottom one is blocked by the oil filter adapter:banghead:. Since you are going to loose a lot of oil when removing it you, might as well do a full oil change.

CE OR SES light on? Have you checked for codes?

Are you getting spark?

Fuel pressure OK?

Will it start with carb cleaner sprayed into intake?

Kind of putting all your eggs in one basket, here....

Is there any coolant in the oil? Northstar engines in this age group are notorious for blowing the head gaskets.

let me give you more background on this problem.about two weeks prior to this no-start problem i was driving home from work on night and the car just suddenly felt like it was out of gas,no response when stepping on the gas pedal,popping/back firing sounds and the SES light came on..i coasted into the nearest gas station and filled it up thinking low gas may have been the problem?the car seemed to run fine for the next 2 weeks and the SES light never came back on.about 2 weeks after this incident i pulled the car into my driveway one night, came out the following morning and the car would not start, just cranks and cranks but will not start.i did take a fuel pressure reading at the time, the best i recall it was around 37lbs..i know normal for this vehicle should be around 41-47lbs but even after installing a new AC/Delco fuel pump around 4yrs ago it always read around 37lbs and ran just fine..fuel filter and FPR were also replaced about 4yrs ago..i don't think it's a fuel related problem but not totally sure..so that's where i stand, the cars been sitting dead in the driveway for about a month now.can not get it scanned without towing it to a garage..any ideas? thanks much

I know that places like Autozone rent tools......not sure if they allow rental of scan tools.....

OR.....

Pick up a code reader......$20-$40 bucks.....

OR....

Check for spark.....if ok, spray carb cleaner into intake and see if vehicle starts....

Again spark at the plugs, will it start with starting fluid all basic driveway checks.

ok, finally had a warm day and got out to do some more tests..i'm ready to rule out a fuel problem..did another fuel pressure test, read 41lbs which is normal for this vehicle..also sprayed starting fluid into the intake, still would not start..pulled the vacuum tube off the fuel pressure regulater,no gas leakage so that's working fine.can also hear the fuel pump turn on when key is on.the no start is not related to a fuel problem..what next?

ok, here's the latest update on my aurora and it's not good news..i decided to have the car towed to a garage and have it diagnosed..they said the fuel pressure was ok,which i already knew..what surprised me, was when he said it was getting a strong spark, spark ok too..mechanic concluded the no start problem was due to very low compression..he pulled all front spark plugs and tested for compression, all were low and thinks the timing chain jumped ? anyone have a opinion on this or any input? if this is the case it's probably time to say goodbye to my Aurora? $2000-$2500 to fix

Re-read your background paragraph. You said there was one incident and then the car ran fine for 2 weeks. Then, it simply did not start one morning. This does not sound like a timing chain slippage to me.

Over the years I have had 3 Auroras, got 2 of them cheap due to engine problems. Both had similar problems to what you are describing. One had jumped timing (which also bends exhaust valves:banghead:). The other blew the head gasket. If you have the tools and knowhow, they can be rebuilt for $500 to $1000 depending on the extent of the damage. If you have a shop do it I can't even guess how much they will charge.
