Welcome to AFMOTY (AF Model Of The Year) 2012!

Here are few simple rules that everyone has to follow in order to participate in AFMOTY.

Builders are to submit an image of their best finished car or bike model from 2012, and members will vote for their favorite.

AFMOTY 2012 is open to:

* AF members who have joined AF BEFORE the 1st December 2012 only.
* Open to model cars, trucks, and bikes only in any scale.
* Entries must be completed this year (2012), between the dates of 1/1/2012 and 12/31/2012 by AF members registered before 1st December 2012. Models don’t have to be STARTED in 2012. Models started before 2012, but FINISHED in 2012 are allowed.
* Deadline for entries is 31st December 2012, 12PM Central Time.
* Only ONE model may be entered per person.
* The Judges decisions will be FINAL.

Format will be the similar to all AFMOTY contests of the past. Builder's usernames will be displayed with their entry image. This is done in order to make MOTY more of a model contest, rather than model photo contest. If voters want to check out any of the entries more closely, they could look for WIP threads based on member’s user name. If voters want to cast their votes based just on the image posted, they could do that too. Gives a bit more flexibility to the voters and objectivity to the contest.

All entry images will have an entry number, builder’s username, and a model description (e.g. 31. klutz_100, 1/24 Lamborghini Jota). There will be no links to the WIP threads posted in the entry thread.

HOW TO ENTER

Send a PM to me (360spider) (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/private.php?do=newpm&u=42824) entitled: MOTY (Your username)

Example: MOTY gionc

Include: ONE image of your model. Composite images (images that have smaller images embedded on the main picture) are allowed. Image must be NO LARGER than 1024 x 768 pixels. The image must be hosted with a large, reputable image hosting service such as photobucket or imageshack. No images hosted on personal websites or other small/obscure/unknown hosting services, please.

Include: A short title/scale/description of the subject of your build.

Include: A link to the thread for your build in either Completed or In Progress sections. Only entries that have In Progress or Finished threads on AF will be accepted.

Entries that do not follow this format will not be accepted.

I will PM you confirming your entry. If you don’t get my confirmation 3 days after your entry submission, please check with me. There will be no more entries once official Entry thread is posted.

Finally, there will be no ongoing updates as to who is in the lead, etc. All voting will be kept anonymous, and winner will be announced after voting is over and all votes are counted.

HOW TO VOTE

* Voting will start on or about January 2, 2013 when the Official AFMOTY 2012 Entries thread is posted, and will run for two weeks. The end of voting will be announced in THIS thread.
* Each vote must be identified by entry number and description.
* To vote, simply send a PM to both BVC500 and myself (360spider) with your vote. Include both usernames in the recipient window of your PM
* In the title window of your voting PM, place MOTY votes: (your username) ex- MOTY votes: gionc
* Votes not received by both Bernard and me will not be counted. Once again, make sure your voted goes to BOTH BVC500 and 360spider.
* You must allocate a total of 6 points to THREE (3) MODELS.

1st place = 3pts
2nd place = 2pts
3rd place =1pt

* Identify the builds you wish to apply your votes to by their entry number and description
* NO OTHER VOTING METHODS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Votes sent to me will not be counted
* Only AF members that joined BEFORE 1st December 2012 may vote. This is intended to avoid the possibility of people logging on with different names to vote again. If a vote is suspect, it will be investigated and if necessary deleted along with any involved entries.
* You CAN NOT vote for your own model.
* The judges decision will be FINAL.
* In the event of a tie, the model that received the most 3pt votes will be declared the winner. If still a tie - then the most 2pt votes.

Good luck, have fun, and let's see your best from 2012!!

No, FB is fine. All I'm trying to make sure is that we don't have broken links or "bandwidth exceeded" type things happening while displaying entries.

Next time, start to organize AFMOTY in the middle of the year.

Typically it is organized at the beginning of December. Unfortunately this year all of our staff have been quite busy. Thankfully, Alex has taken on the duties and it is not an easy task. But it is better late than never.

At the same time, it is not like it is a surprise that with the end of December comes MOTY.
Thanks to Alex for stepping up!
Thanks to all the admin who donate their time to give us a great place to post and learn!
I know I would not know 1/2 of what I know without AF. No joke.

Well, all the 13 models I finished this year are restorations of old diecasts, so probably I would not qualify for AFMOTY. However, I believe that restoring and old diecast is way harder than building a brand new plastic model kit, like a Tamiya one, where every single piece is present and fits perfectly in its place. To restore a diecast model, you have to carefully figure out how to disassemble it without breaking anything, strip all the paint, fill all the imperfections with putty (I use cyanoacrylate glue an baking soda, no shrinking, no detaching from metal), rebuild pieces (I use sheets of polystyrene taken from CD-ROM cases, glued with trichlorethylene), polish transparent parts, straighten wheel axles and so on. Next year I will begin some of my 29 plastic model kits, and hopefully I will enter AFMOTY.

Here there are all the 29 plastic model kits I have still to build:

1/24 - Italeri - Ferrari 250 California spider - Rosso Corsa 300/9, black interiors
