trailing arm trouble

Hello,
1999 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1 litre 197k miles.
Recently became noisy on bumps. An inspection of the drivers side rear wheel
showed me why. The mount on the frame that the trailing arm connects to has rotted out. It looks like a changeable part as it is bolted to the frame, but I do not know what it is called and cannot find it in any parts catalog. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks for your thoughts.

Try an auto dismantling yard. I suspect this is not a normal wearing part, so I am not surprised you cannot find a new one.
Whats the one on the passenger side like?

If the bracket itself is corroded away you may need to get one fabricated at a body shop

If that is corroded, I would be concerned with the front cradle, brake lines, fuel lines, etc.

Thanks for the fast replies...The passenger side is rusted also but not as badly..this rust appears on the bracket itself which bolts to the frame which appears to be intact. The brake and fuel lines look as you would expect on a 99. There is not much rust on this car. The trailing arm itself is not broken and the bushings are in fair shape as well. I know a guy who works the parts counter at a GM dealership. I will ask him if there is any such part and post back the results.

Hello again,
Went to see the dealer today...turns out it is GM part number 10262701 description is simply "bracket". List price $13.28 plus tax. My friend told me that he has sold quite a few of them this year. I guess this is strictly a dealer part. The new one is a very light gauge metal. If the original part was the same I am surprised it lasted this long. I plan on changing both sides next week. Thanks again to you all.

Thank you for the update.
I didn't think GM could price a sneeze that low. :)

I would do both for that price. You should paint them before putting on to help prevent future corrosion since they are a lighter gauge steel.
