2004 Gran Prix remote start

Newbie to the forum here.
I have a 2004 Gran Prix GT, and I recently purchased a remote starter from Bulldog Security(which includes a bypass module).
I made an attempt to install today, and ran into some problems. I have done quite a few remote starters in the past, so I have some experience with them.
The main problem I have is locating the ignition wires under the dash. I have a diagram from bulldog showing the wire colors, and stating the wires come from the ignition switch. The only wires coming off the ignition are very small (18ga), and I am used to seeing heavier wire for this.
Can someone give me an idea where I may find the ignition wires needed to use the remote starter? I did try connecting to the smaller wires, but was unsuccessful.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated!!!
