I have a 2002 Silverado 2wheel 1500 that has developed an unusual noise that seems to come from behind the dash (near the glove box). There is a roller type sound (creaky likes it's stretching something) that usually ends with a clunk. I'm pretty sure it does it whether the AC is on or not and it doesn't seem to affect the AC at all. I just had the thing in for maintenance so, I hesitate to take it back. I did have the blower control replaced about 10,000 miles ago (wouldn't come on until Speed 3) and I did have the cabin filter replaced recently.

Sounds like a blend or mode door actuator motor that cant find a "park" position.

remove the blower motor to see if you have some debris in there. removal of the under glove box plastic cover then disconnect the wiring and unscrew the motor mounting .

replace / clean the air filters next to the blower at this time.
