1966 VW Beetle Volksrod (Tamiya)

I finally managed to shoot some finished photos of this model; though it was "done" for the CKM NNL show in NC in August, it needed some front suspension TLC that it didn't get until earlier in November for our Atlanta show, and life for me is barely starting to get back to a sense of normalcy, if you can call it that.

Anyway, this was a really fun model to build. Inspired by Hank Young's Volksrod, I went on with my own color scheme, and simplified my life by using Tamiya's Beetle suspension (highly modified in front to extend the wheelbase by about one scale foot), and wheels, rather than Hank's vintage Ford pieces. I could very well talk myself into doing another Volksrod, one with a subtle top chop, open ragtop, and vintage artillery wheels and suspension. I love the Hebmueller Volksrod that was done about 8 or 10 years back...if I could learn to lace my own wire wheels, I'd do that one.

I'm the last person in the world to be a trophy hound, but I was really shocked, awed, and honored to get both a Top Ten and Best In Show w/the model back when I showed it in August. The trophy is amazing...it's a piston way larger than any Beetle has ever seen :biggrin:

excellent paint, seems like more as a perfect die-cast than a model, hard to say is a built model.

Didn't shoot any interior photos, it's 100% stock OOB Tamiya. Ditto for the engine, aside from the custom exhaust.
