Where to start

I have a 2003 silverado, 4.3 L engine, 110,000 miles. I filled up with gas on Thursday, The tank was low, about 1/4 or even less. Immediately after, the engine ran rough. I thought it was bad gas but got brand name gas at a station I have not had problems with before. I ran it 2 days then the engine light came on. It was still running rough. I thought I could run some of the bad bottom gas/water out. Today, I got a couple of misfires. I took it to Autozone; got p 0171 and p0172. They sold me some injector cleaner. You can smell gas from the exhaust. It runs rough at idle but still can make it up to 60 mph without much problem. Nevertheless, even at 60mph it does not feel the same. Where do you I think I should start looking for the problem? BTW, sometimes the engines blinks sometimes it does not: but mostly not.

running low on fuel causes water to build up in the fuel tank. gas stations also may have water in the fuel. if after filling up you had a problem then you must use dry gas to break up the water. add two bottles and put in about 3/4 tank of fuel. do not run the vehicle with less than 1/4 tank at any time or you will have fuel pump burn out.
even name brand stations can have water/condensation issues.

you need to run ethanol free gas in the take every few tank fulls. to clean out the tank.
so where you live you can purchase non ethanol gasoline ?
In my area that ended 2 years ago. this was limited to boat fuel suppliers.
If I could purchased non ethanol for my boat I sure would .condensation in the boating world and the engine damage is widespread. you must keep the fuel tank properly protected from moisture . that is hard to do.
the more air in the tank the more water will be there. storing a tank of fuel with a small aount of fuel will create water due to the condensation.
since the water settles. best have the fuel pump come on and dump the first gallon of fuel into a container rather than have the engine get to it.
before starting my boat in the spring I drain out the tank after adding a couple of gallons of fuel to remove any water. then I fill it up and get the engine going . so far all is good no corrosion .

this is the info I got with the pure gas site you / I have for this non ethanol gasoline
"Updated by Stephen Dodge, February 06, 2012 9:34 CST
No more ethanol-free gasoline available anywhere. Checked with them today to confirm "
I did look this up 2 yrs ago. federal law no more of this fuel to be available. if it is available its illegal.
the off road/boating industry is trying to have these type fuels made again so that boating fleet eliminates the high cost of engine damage.

in your area looks like you will need to drive a bit. hmm they did try to make it illegal to use but, i am betting if you go out to your local air port you may find a tank or two. ethanol is illegal to run in aircraft. after a few crashes they stopped selling it as a aircraft fuel. there are also a load of farm equipment that can not run ethanol in there fuel and a bunch of old cars. so if you have a car club you mite want to chat with them for a bit.
you may also want to check with your local police department. they can not run any type of bio fuel in there cars and trucks. yes its a law check it out. e-0 or they face fines and could put lives in danger.

give me an address and business so that I can check this out . If you can in the US.
since the EPA says its illegal to make , I will be very surprised if some how all the police and all the farms use non ethanol fuels. that would require a large amount to be blended .
what I have found is only Alaska you can purchase non ethanol fuels in the USA. In canada you can get it in the 91 octane gasoline.
If you say you know where to get it in the lower 48 of the USA just give me the address/name of business.
What is the real danger would be E15. that would cause a big problem. the EPA would be under a lot of attacks if that was required. they are talking about doing this !
the pipelines of the fuel makers do not allow ethanol in there pipes causes damage to them all ethanol is added at the distribution site !

I wouldn't think a 2003 would have any issues running the ethanol mix on the market. As long as it's not the "85" stuff. I have a 85 volvo, and if it can run with the ethanol mix then the 2003 should not have an issue. My guess, water in the gas from the station you got it from. If I see a tanker where I normally get gas, I wait couple days before refueling to let all the crap settle to the bottom.

Ethanol loves moisture. The distributors deliver a pretty clean product but the retailers, gas stations dont maintain their tanks enough. sometimes they sell some pretty expensive water!
