1997 Ultra Traction Control/ABS Module

My traction control and ABS are not activating when needed. My mechanic scanned the codes and I got about 8 of them from the wheel sensors which checked out ok and the module itself. I bought a used pump/module assembly and installed. The traction control still did not work and this time there were no codes. I then bought a rebuilt ABS module and it is still not working. I had a choice of two one with reminder package which is the one I bought and one without. Does anyone know if the reminder package RPO Y67 comes with all Ultras in 1997?

Did you check the RPO sticker in your car?

Sometimes it is located on the underside of the trunk......sometimes it is on the underside of the cover of the spare......

So there are no ABS codes, and the traction off light is on? Have you checked for PCM codes?

The RPO sticker in the car was not from my car (different VIN). Buick dealer provided a printout to me. Doesn't show Y67. I understand that this reminder package is for chimes to for door ajar, trunk open etc. I do get these reminder chimes. The original ABS module from my car was scrapped by the shop so I have no way of checking. The one I got on the used pump assembly and have since replaced is for car with reminder package and so is the one reman I got from Standard Motor Products. No codes come up and I noticed that the traction control light off does not come one when I press the button on the gear selector switch. Looking at the Buick service manual for my car it looks like there is a initial test that takes place when the ignition is turned on. If something is wrong at that point should I see the ABS and Traction Control lights come on and set a code? I have been test driving it and spinning the wheels. Before I started having problems the traction control active would show on the drivers information center and I would hear a noise. Now nothing happens.

Does the ABS function work and just the traction control is inop? I have run into several instances where salvage yards sent me modules that were not traction control units, just ABS.

The PCM module itself could possibly be having issues.
I have gone through 2 PCMs. One displays a traction control off and the other the cruise control will set on then wink out.
Good Luck.

I have now gone through two modules still not working. My mechanic took hooked up his pro scanner and drove it around. There is no signal being sent to the PCM he is sure the module is the problem. Now the question I have my car has the Y56 grand touring option. Do I have the magnetic variable steering in this package? Would there be a different ABS module for this application from the non RPO Y56 Ultra's?

Check the steering gear, there will be a plug/harness going to the gear near where the steering shaft attatches to the gear. If there is a harness, it's a Magnasteer rack. I'm pretty sure the magnasteer gets its signal from the EBCM, which uses the speed sensor input to adjust the amount of steering assist to allow.

when you turn the ignition on is the ABS/Trac Off/ Brake on right away( does not shut off )

As well did he tell you the codes?

I had an internal circuit failure on mine... I have ABS and Traction Control.. the unit is the EBTCM, I replaced mine from an exact car like mine with no issues in the last 40,000 miles..

Also being an Ultra, do you have the Stability Control System?
