2005 to 2000 drivetrain swap

I posted a question about an engine swap, but a new wrinkle came up:
Rather than replacing the engine and tranny in my 2000 AWD Astro (212K) with a crated engine and tranny, I have the opportunity to buy a 2005 RWD Astro with some body damage, but only 70K on the drive train. I'm not a big fan of AWD, so we're wondering if I could pull the subframe from the 2005 and swap it into the 2000, since I have to pull the subframe anyawy. Were there design changes over 5 years that would prevent that?

So we got out-bid on the 2005 that we would swap from, but won on a 2005 without any damage. It's costing me a few grand more, but is saving my back for the swap.
So now, I get to start all over again with a 2005 from the Forest Service that's real clean with 80K miles and 16" wheels. A couple of friends said to put my 2000 Astro back together, get it to run and sell it to offset the price on the '05, as the body and interior are in pretty good shape and the engine was running well before it stopped - probably due to the alternator, they think.
Any comments on the 2005's? The toaster-testers at Consumer Reports had a lot of negative comments about 04's and 05's.
Any truth in that?
