Quick warning to everyone about the 'McLaren' badge on Ebay...

Hopefully anyone who is interested in this item will see my post before the auction ends. This badge is not at all what it is being described as.

The seller lists it as a real badge from the F1 road car but it is actually one of the smaller badges that was made for the cover of the Special Edition versions of "Driving Ambition". I have one of these badges loose from the book myself and it's about 1/4 the size of the real thing.

I will be messaging the seller to let them know all of these things and hopefully he will cancel and relist, but wanted to put the word out to our community first so that if anyone is bidding or considering a bid that they can be better informed about what they'd be getting - or in this case, not getting. :uhoh:

P.S.: Thanks to Greg for the tip - I've been lax in keeping up with Fleabay recently and had not seen this auction yet.

I took some quickie shots with my phone just now to show the comparison in size between a real badge and the one from the book which he is selling - placing them next to a ruler for actual size comparison.

I wouldn't normally be so concerned, but the current bid is at £276 / $443 which is a lot of coin to spend for a badge even if it was real. :yikes:

I've messaged the seller and included the photo as well so hopefully he will see it and do the right thing. :)

After not hearing back from the seller on the message I sent through EBay for a couple of hours I noticed he had his email address at the bottom of the listing and resent my message directly that way. No response through that method either.

Oh well - I certainly tried. :(

Happy to say the seller does have a conscience. I was a little worried there when I didn't get any response, but he wrote me back this evening:

Dear peloton25,

hi,

I will sort this with eBay and the high bidder and cancel sale, and correct new listing advert.
