OK Dodge owners.........enlighten me!

It's been a long time since I've owned a dodge so the newer engines are something I have no experience with. A guy in town has a 2004 Dakota Quad-Cab 4x4 with a 4.7 engine. The engine has puked but the truck itself is in fantastic shape according to all of the pics I see of it. He's not asking much for the truck so I'm considering buying it. (i do not know what happened to the engine as I have not been over to actually see it yet......don't know if it is rebuildable or not)

I looked thru the normal sources for another engine (used) and there are extremely FEW of these. Has everyone with a 4.7 had it implode or is it a case where none have had trouble so there's none out there? How do these engines normally hold up? My daughter has wanted a 4x4 truck for a while now and I want her 98 trooper since I've put a new 3.5 in it and painted it and have the lockers for it on the shelf

Not a Dodge owner, but work on them often. Around here 4.7s are hard to find. They usually grenade around 150k to 170k miles in my experience. Replaced a few, but now are getting too expensive to find used. Remans usually around $2500. IMHO not a good engine.
