had an accident last Saturday with my 02 Xtreme with 170,000 miles; the '06 corvette wheels I run in the summer were REALLY bald in the rear, and I hydroplaned and biffed another car on the expressway in the rain.

Insurance has it as a total loss, and is giving me $3k, with me keeping it to fix or sell on my own; here's the question....do I fix it and continue to drive a 10 year old 170k+ mile vehicle, or take this as a sign that it's time to move on? I have a buddy at the shop that's already offered me $1k for the vehicle as-is, which puts $4k in my pocket to look for a new car / truck.

I've just replaced all 4 ball joints, alignment, had all the body rust fixed except the rear bumper (was planning on a roll pan); it was in great condition, including 2" drop spindles, 3" blocks, taurus fan, throttle plate mods, B&M Mega Shifter, the 'Vette wheels and adapters, etc.

I did overheat big time last summer when my water pump went out, and I can't believe I didn't do any damage as the car was driven for quite a while with no water (I didn't believe the gauge....).

I can get the parts to fix the body for $1k on eBay; pass fender, hood, grille, pass headlight bezel, bumper, fascia, and shroud that goes in front of the radiator / condenser (radiator and condensor are both undamaged). More $$ to install / paint the parts ($1k?), and I'm assuming the radiator support and the frame are both undamaged.

Would you fix the Xtreme, or move on to another vehicle? Need some opinions!

Check out this link. You could end up with a Salvage Title, which makes the vehicle almost impossible to sell. In this article, Minnesota is one of the states that does this. I'd take the money and run like hell.

The Xtreme is gone; insurance offered me $3,000, and a buddy wants to buy it for $1,000 to fix up for his kid.

Sold the 06 wheels, tires and spacers for $300, and stripped the car of all the 'add on's' I've put on over the years. I'll be getting a total of almost $5,000 for the vehicle when it's all said and done, and I don't think I could have sold it for that much as a 10 year old vehicle with over 170,000 miles.

I've put some of the 'extras' on eBay if you are interested;
light grey duel vanity visors with extensions and lighted mirror
Street Scene Cal View powered, heated rear view mirrors
original Xtreme drop spindles (think these are 1" drop over stock)
auto dimming rear view mirror I had taken out of a Cadillac
original stock shifter and cable

Thanks for the help and posts over the last 7 years!
