Hey,
Does anyone have any creative ideas for license plates? I want something G20 related, but I'm drawing a blank. Somebody please help me out, 8 letters or less.

How about some primera based names. I wanted to just put PRIMERA but someone already has one in Washington.

Oh that's a practical solution. All I have to do is wait a year when the guy realizes he has to pay crazy amounts of money to keep it.

Yeah, I'm thinking:
sr20de or sr20pwr
The best one around here is a guy with a Buick Turbo Regal. His says: TRYMYV6
And sadly enough, some of those honda guys actually have tried to race him. Hahahahaha.

I think the BEST license plate ever was either RACE ME (cops LOVE that one) :D or F VTEC the later one is actually on a Honda running a non vtec motor in his hatch. he got wawy with it by saying his motor was an F series motor, or something like that i thought. heheheh :D OH yeah, a sentra owner here in as has vtecthis but somehow abbreviated..... i forget the exact spelling.

In Washington you have to write out what it means and things like that won't go through. Plus if at anytime on the road someone sees it and is offened the state will take you plates.

Dude, that's CRAZY! In Virginia, it's only 10 bucks more for personalized plates. That makes it like $37....

In Indiana you pay an extra 40$ on top of our outrageous excise tax. If I recall correctly I paid something like 150$ for the plates on my 7 year old car, sheesh.

Yeah, it's pretty expensive in Tennessee, too. Virginia has state income tax, though. They get you one way or another...

I just went to the Ministry of Transport here and to verify, it is $215 for personalized plates. It doesn't matter if you have 1 2 or any amount of numbers. Forget getting customized plates :) - I think it would be better spent on a CAI.

HI Guys I am keen to find out how the plate system works in the USA.
Cos it sounds from this thread that you can pretty much make up what ever you want. But am I correct in thinking that you can only do this on the front of your vehicle and the rear one has to be the cars proper Reg No.The reason for thinking the last bit is that a few years ago on vacation in Florida I reversed my hire care into a space in a shopping mall car park and came back to find this irate cop making a big issue out of the fact that that I had backed into the space and he'd had to get his big Dougnut eating ass out of his patrol car to look at the Reg Noon the back.

I think the plates are actually the same all the way around, there are not two different ones on the car. And for the cop being a jerk about you backing in, that's just cause he was a jerk. I don't see any reason why you couldn't back into a spot (unless it stated so on a sign or something like that). Here in Az the plates are an extra 25-35 a year depending on the type of plate you want, and it doesn't matter what you get on the plate, only that is abides by the state laws (no curse words, or derogatory sayings, crap like that).

In the uk you have to buy any plate other than the one that comes with the car when its new.And they are normaley only available from rip off (prices) plate dealers or direct from the DVLA but either way the cheapest with say one letter followed by two numbers then your 3 initials is £250.But cos were a sad bunch over here we are will to pay tens of thousands of pounds for plates that spell funny/offensive stuff or just disguise the age of our vehicles. ie my 1998 primera GT has a plate that with a bit of careful doctoring now has the year I was born followed by initials But if it was laid out correctly it makes the car look 12 years old (and I paid £500 for the privilage) Like I said "SAD BUNCH"

I don't think there are any laws about not being able to back in. I seen some parking lots that require it. But if there is no sign park either way.
Each state has its own thing for license plates. In Washington it is $45 to start and $30 a year to continue. Nothing derogatory or could be offensive to anyone.
Many states require two plates but some do not. On the ones that don't you can put another plate with license #, your own plate out front, or leave the front end clean. I think florida doesn't require the front plate so that is why the cop was pissed. He was cruising the parking lots looking for expired tabs so he could get some easy tickets. Your car was backed in so he couldn't see the plate. He probly thought you were trying to hide somthing.

Is "tab" slang for road tax??? Cos our plates have nothing to do with road tax we have a disc in the bottom left of the windscreen. So a cop has to check via his control rooms computer to see if the vehicle is taxed if he is following you as opposed to looking at the vehicle when its parked up.
There are a lot of people in the UK that think our road tax should be added to the cost of fuel at the pump. And I agree as it would completely prevent any road tax evasion and also you would pay more tax if you use the roads more.Sounds sensible enough doesn't it,which is why our govenment haven't implemented it!!!!!!!!!!!

On our plates there are two stickers called tabs. One is for the month and one is for the year. Each year you pay to get new stickers. The stickers are made out of this weird metalic stuff that can't be removed in one piece to prevent sealing them. Those stickers show that the car has renewed its registration. Every other year you have to stop by an emission test station and get the car tested for pollution. Some times you just have to rev to 2500RPM with the clutch in and sometimes you are put on the rollers and actualy drive it up to 2500. If you pass you will get a card that will allow you to renew. Until a year ago, our state got a ton of money from tabs. They were based off the retail value of the car. Some people were paying about $20. My dad's Acura Legend was $1200 a year. We voted in a initiative that made it $30 for everybody. They then added a bunch of other crap so it ends up being $80. People with old crap got a bad deal but saved the rest of us lots.
So what I was saying was the cop was just driving around looking for old stickers. They like to do that the first week of the month for the people that forgot. Which reminds me...My Volvo was May, I never thought to look on my new car. Hope it wasn't october :)

Do the stickers in other states cost as much as your plates, b/c they do in Virginia. Hearing everyone else talk about how much stuff costs in other states, I must be getting off lucky.
37 for plates
10 for inspection
12 for city sticker
___
59 bucks a year total in VA...

So can sombody tel how old your car is by looking at it ie the plates in uk are age related so unless the car has a private plate you can tell straight away how old it is .Which keeps people buying new cars (to keep up with their neighbours etc)

No, you get the same plates/stickers etc. whether your car is old or new. The only possible exception I can think of is antique/classic plates which you can get after your car turns 20 or 25 (can't remember which). My '87 and '94 cars and my granddad's '77 truck all have identical type plates.
