I currently drive a chevy cobalt and after having several issues with it I'm considering buying a new jeep wrangler. My gut is telling me to go for it since I do enjoy the outdoors and have thought about doing some offroading. What I miss most is not having the four wheel drive capability. The queetions I have are would it be a good vehical for someone who is single and no family and to use it as a primary vehical?

Going off road is not to be taken lightly. You need to develop a whole new range of driving skills, and ability to "read" the terrain. There are many off-road 4x4 clubs out there who actively seek out new members and provide guidance and easy trail rides.

Take a nice long test drive or 3 in some Wranglers. They are much different than a Cobalt, and will feel larger, less sporty, more truck-like, noisier and more cumbersome. Be sure you are prepared to live with the different feel before you buy.

Did you get your Jeep or did MagicRat dissuade you? :D

Jeeps DO ride and drive differently than cars do. If you want a sports car then Rat is right and this isn't the vehicle for you. However if you want to explore all those little dirt roads you've seen just off the highway, or to not worry when you have to go up a hill in 8" of snow, or get to that campsite far up in the hills, then Jeep is for you.

I'd say thats pretty good advice from MagicRat. Rent one for a week and see how ya like it. I rented one in Puerto Rico last year and had some fun idriving through the rain forest and on the beaches. But in town and traffic I'd rather be in a Chevy or something.

I got my first jeep last January and couldn't be happier. I love being able to put the top down and take the doors off. And there are countless aftermarket accessories to make it your own. I love mine so much I actually got rid of my mustang and use it as a daily driver. I will say it is different from a cobalt or in my case a mustang. It will be a big difference so think about what owning a jeep would be like before deciding... I will warn that gas mileage sucks. I fill up around 6 times a month and its 50$ each time.
