A large pair of channel lock pliers from Harbor freight will work on all oil filters.

A large pair of channel lock pliers from Harbor freight will work on all oil filters.
Unfortunately not on all vehicles. Subaru (as well as my 2004 Toyota Camry) have recessed filter. You do need a special wrench to access the filter.
