Just had the 1st chance to put car in 4x4 and noticed that the 4x4 light on the dash just flashes. I do hear a noise from under the car like it is engaging something but the light flashes. What could this be? The lever will go into 4 wheel low and appears to be OK. Is there something I should be doing?? Thanks
Just a quick follow up. When I activate the button on the dash I can hear something happening under the truck, and I am able to put the truck in 4wheel low. But I am still not getting the front to engage. Any ideas would be appreciated.

OK so today I climbed under the car and had my wife flick the 4wd switch on and off. The shaft that runs from the transfer case to the front unit does lock up and BUT the front unit on the L/S axel housing does nothing.I believe this is what locks the 4x4 unit to the housings. I am thinking this is the culprit and needs to be pulled off and cleaned. AM I RIGHT???? Thanks for replies 2001 Isuzu Rodeo V6 Automatic SOTF 4x4 Would take any advise to what to do. because it sure as hell isn't going to work it ou by itself.:banghead:

Is there any special things I need to know or do before unbolting this from the housing. Should I replace the Vac hoses...what do I need to look out for when taking this apart. Thanks.

I've never have done it before, but I would suggest you post on planetisuzoo.com (a ton of isuzu owners there).

So after taking a daily stroll through my favorite salvage yard I came to the conclusion that if the 4x4 on the fron axle has an electric motor to switch it to 4x4 there wont be a vacuum system. I guess my next step is to saerch for an electric actuator on the front housing. I am tempted to remove it but don't want to open a can of worms and see stuff poping out. Would rather experiment on a donor at the JY first. I see that these are a very common problem and prone to seizing and rusting up if not used every month or so. Oh and I actually found a switch for the Fog/Driving lamps.
