Here's a pic of a Ford F150 Lightning I'm drawing. It's freehand with a .5 mechanical pencil, no other tools. I hope to be finished soon. Feedback welcome and encouraged. Thanks.

Thanks guys. Yeah, there is a white building behind the truck that reflects off the hood. .5mm is the only way I go, cuz the .7mm just doesn't get the dark areas dark enough. I don't really care for the tortes too much, I'm sure they help but I just like to use the pencil and that's it. Thanks again.

Oh, AirAllen01 try .5 mm 2B lead. See if you like that.
You can even go darker then with the HB you got.
At least it looks like HB to me.
IMHO

I have no idea what the difference between leads is, but the scanned version isn't as dark as it really is. I can get black out of the lead I have, but it takes about 2 to 3 layers.

Nope, sorry. It'll just be the regular Lightning wheels. I don't think Lightnings look good with any other rims. I've seen 20's on a Lightning before and it really didn't appeal to me. It could've just been the type of rim, but I still like the stock ones the best.

That is awesome. Especially for freehand. It is proportioned really well. Do you have a pic of the original?

Here's the original:

I've already finished the windshield, but it's too large compared to the pic, as if I was drawing it from a different angle, so I'm going to finish the truck as if it were at a different angle.

And also, I went back and darkened over the darker areas. I think that if you have a wider range of value in a black and white pic, then the pic will look much better. So I try to push the blacks and brighten the whites. Also, don't forget that you CAN use your eraser to draw. That's how I get most of my highlights.

You asked me to come over here and take a look... Well, there's not too much I can say. Actually there is nothing I can say. Just a couple of things. It looks like it is pressed by the sides, not long enough. I'm presuming that's just the scan or the cropping? Other than that, not much I can say... I was just checking the pictures and I realized a couple things: The meshing on the grille is a bit loose and a bit crooked, but I have never seen any meshing that nice. Please teach us! And for the grilles, the main one and the lower one are different "densities". What happened? Other than that, it is a marvel. there are a few parts on the drawing that are trying to be like the picture, but they just look a bit different. I noticed this in the main grille again. You tried to reproduce the exact lines of the grille, exactly. It looks like you are afraid to stray off of the picture. In the middle of the grille on the picture, there is a bulge because there is something in the motor area which is protruding into the grille. In the drawing, it is sort of obvious that you tried to precisely copy the picture, forgetting that there is a bulge there. Just draw the bulge, ignoring how close it is to the pic. It doesn't have to be EXACTLY what the pic looks like, it can also be what you want it to look like. Here, draw in your own bulge, honnestly who cares if it doesn't perfectly allign with the shadow coming off the building. I know it is hard to do a change in level on meshing, but to me it looks akward. The style is excelent, but it just doesn't have to be perfectly alligned with exactly what the pictue's reflections are. No one (other than me) will come over here and say, oh no! It looks as if the picture's reflections are coming onto the truck at a different angle... If you have no idea what the hell I'm talking about, I don't really get it either... Also, put the reflection of the door arch of the building a bit lighter, or put the hood intake darker. Now it looks like that reflection is a round intake and that the other one is plastic and blocked off (haha Mustangs...)

Thanks, I'll try and do some of that. I like to copy photos, it's just fun for me to do. I have designed my own car, but that car is looonng gone, don't know what happened to it. Yeah, I've kinda got the windsheild too large on this side of the truck so it throws my angle off a little giving the picture a look of a higher angle than the pic. I figure I'll finish the truck at the different angle and maybe have a little of the top of the bed cover. Thanks for the constructive critism, it's what I needed.

That would be good for a real challenge: Take a pic of a nice car, one that you feel comfortable drawing. Then draw it at a slightly different angle, and adjust the reflections and what-not...
I got to go sleep soon, 1 in the morn...

So far, it's still the one at the top. I haven't had a chance to work on it lately. I've only had it for 2 days now.
