Here I am again with an interesting issue.
I own a 2003 Vue V6 AWD (original owner). I have an interesting problem I hope someone can give me some guidance very quickly. So when I lost power because of Sandy I used a car phone charger and plugged it in the lighter so I could charge my phone. I was driving around and in like 5 minute after I plugged the charger the Engine Thumped and I had check engine soon and service engine light come on. The symptoms I get in this condition are when I have the Vehicle drive (D) when I press the gas the engine RPMs to 2000 rpm and very slow movement of the wheels till it gets going. Turns out the errors codes I am seeing are related to the Transmission Control unit and second code is some kind of signal issue with regard to the TCU. SO I disconnected the battery for like 20 mins then reconnected and that seem to clear the issue. I drive for like 2 days and I got the same issue again on the second day. I was driving along and around 45mph I heard the thump and the same lights came on. I reset by battery disconnection and it seems fine again so far. What is going on? Can I say 100% that the TCU is the issue or is there some other device involved? Why would me plugging in a car charger cause this issue? Please advise. I need to make sure because the TCU will cost well over a $1K which I know is highway robbery at a local so called Saturn authorized repair center (Chevy Dealer). Thank you for your response.
Codes involved were P1791 Transmission Control unit and second code P1779 is some kind of signal issue with regard to the TCU (sorry codes from memory right now).
