First off don't even tell me to swap out for a new engine its not happening.

i want to tear down my a6 and rebuild it so i have a reliable engine while i'm on on my externship and as i'm breaking away from having a garage at my fingertips...

so then on to the topic, what all should i replace while the engine is torn apart. and any where in particular where i should get my parts? any thoughts would be appricated

thanks

well id suggest changing all the belts including timing, the water pump, all gaskets and seals, as well as basic tune up parts.

belts all done already, water pump just done, new plugs,
wires and cap are done, new ignition rotor... main question i have is what on the bottom end can be replaced?

i'm worried that my underdrive pulley did damage my bearing (got a tick not from the valves and it sounds like its from the bottom end)

what bearings can be replaced?

well you can replace the crank bearings, and the connecting rod bearings if your tearing the whole motor apart.

m'kay that was one of the main things on my mind

i want to check out the cylinder walls and make sure there is no scaring, so with removing the pistons i'll have to replace the rings, hone it (if its still in good condition) but if the walls do show wear and i have to bore it out a lil, i have to get slightly oversized pistons right?

i want the car to run like new and not worry about it

well since swapping is out of the question, and you're rebuilding your engine with stock parts, you might want to build it up a bit with stock parts. for instance, you can use the pistons from an 88-89 acura integra, which are huge domes, and bump up your compression to around 11.0:1. that would give you a bump in horsepower for the same money that you would've paid for civic pistons.. just a thought.

yea if they are messed up you'll need to bore it out some and get oversized pistons, along with new rings.

but 91civicdude has a point, use what you can around junkyards and stuff to increase power without swapping motors.

thanks that helps a lot, and yeah i do like the better stock options, i'll prolly do the 92-95 head gasket too and give the compression a lil bit more of a bump, and prolly try and find a dx crank pulley due to its lighter weight, that under drive pulley has me kinda wondering now...

so what exactly is "dealer discount" how much more am i likely to be paying? i know a bunch of that stuff i won't have to bother with... b/c it was recently taken care of...

I work at a car dealership and i got discounted on all my parts that i bought for my buildup, so all those prices are kinda like dealer cost. For those who don't have a dealer discount will have to pay a little more than my prices.

I bought my rebuild parts at www.hondaautomotiveparts.com

They are the cheapest OEM place I've found. They charge a flat fee of something like $8 for each order, so try to order everything at once. But I am sure you'll forget something and need a 2nd order (or 3rd :D) like I did :o.

Honda makes a bottom and top end gasket set...You'll probably want to get those. I would also recommend the seals too, like rear main seal, oil pan gasket, etc..I dunno if those come with the gasket sets or not.

You'll want to replace all the bearings and rings, and also I would recommend rebuilding the head too. Get the valves re-ground for a good seal on the head, and replace the valve seals, and the cam seals and stuff in the head. Those are mostly o-rings, but you should replace them.

If you do something like go with Integra pistons, then you'll need Integra rings, which you can get here: www.acuraautomotiveparts.net - the two joints are linked on the web, so either site has a link to the other. When I rebuilt the ZC, I bought Civic (a6) bottom end parts, and Integra (d16a1) top end parts ;) - I even bought a couple of B-series parts ;) - the ZC valve cover studs came from a 90 Integra (b18) - so the ZC really is a mix of everything - lol :D

Also, if you don't already have one....GET A HELM'S Manual..that will be the best $60 you ever spend.

aight guys so i'm looking on majestics site, and then some of the parts have multiple numbers for one thing, like the main bearing for the crank has choices "A-G" are there any differences? or what do i order?
