Kit Review: Porsche 993 RWB transkit from C1-Models

Hi,
being a fan of Rauh Welt I bought a transkit from C1 Models to create a RWB Porsche 993
at the Frankfurt Car Modelling Show this year.

First impression is great, because the box is not just a box, is more a piece of art (kind of). Now will the pieces in the box have the same level?

Pros:
- instructions on high quality paper
- 2 sets of different seats
- 2 sets of different wheels
- Upper part of a Porsche 993 engine
- Decals
- etched parts

Cons:
- the casting isn´t so good, the surface is smooth, but lot of sanding at the lower parts, the windows, the wheels necessary
- the filler cap is missing
- the bars of the little triangular windows of the doors are missing
- turn indicators on the front fenders are missing
- there are two bars at the rear, you must cut he rear light in pieces?

In my eyes the kit is an instrument, to create a RWB model car. The price isn´t low, I payed 89,- Euro, but there are lots of parts compared to some other transkits.

BTW – the owner of formerly known Scale Auto Style seems to be the owner of C1 models …

Hi Micha,

thx for your preview. i startet with my one:
http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-s8RAVROGIUM/UH6QNuntIbI/AAAAAAAAAiw/5-sSe54t72M/s800/PICT0189.JPG
i cut out the bars of the little triangular windows from the Tamiya 993 and the windowframe between rearwindow and enginebay. the part is broken during sanding. next steps are engrave the sunroof and the filler cap.

I think the bodyfendersare a little bit too small.

I didn't know Chris started up another business. Good to see he's back at it though if he really is the owner of C1 Models. Thanks for the post, I'm looking forward to the WIP.

Nice review, Good to see close up photos, sometimes hard to see the detail on Facebook. Yes from what I've heard C1 models has been started by the former Scale Auto Style, & also I believe a somewhat active memebr of our very own forum... i'm sure hes watching....

wow, thanks michael, in your hand this will become another great model !

I just dunno about the real car of this subject.
Is this a street version of the 993 rsr used in the 90s? seem reall wider than tamiya's racing one, but (loving a lot the real one, and having the lucky to drive and make the model for the owner-friend of one of the 3 italian official gt2 rsr/clubsport street version) dunno if they correctly made it starting from the wide turbo body-4s or using the standard 993 one,as usual on street cars

Just curious as usual u know. Model tk looks nice anyway (but again cause me and think all of u like a lot the 993 and that combo rims..) :)

made a full immersion into rauh welt websites. They make really cool cars.
Strange it is stuff done in japan. Was waiting it to be something deeply geraman made as RUf or other porsche tuners of the 80s.....cars I loved on magazines at the time.
It is a cool idea mostly for older 911 sc cars, still affordable at cheap prices and without electronics. The 993 is a starship of microprocessor and already too expensive cars (had one....with radio antenna inside the fwd windshield...).
The 993 is probably the most valued porsches of recent times, and imho until the arrival of the 997 the nicest ever.

:D looking at the video he did when visiting Thailand, and how he cuts fenders with sort of modelling electric saw, without any anti rust threatment and nearly homemade while smoking, think in Stuttgard many can have heart attack and run caressing the original stuff done by europeans.
Porsche garages (I love Orlando Redolfi - Autorlando in Bergamo, probably on of the best of the world) looks like a beauty clinic. All the racing teams I've seen "brutalizing" the geraman porsches seems medical clinic too.
And a decent 993 is valued around 60.000 euros nowadays.

LoL... I like rauh welt whatever anyway (mostly the new cabrio... :D)

I also have purchased 2 transkits to build also. The tuner is indeed Japanese and I have spent a lot of time at this particular garage as I was fortunate to live very close to Nakai-san (creator of RWB).

Anyone who is wishing to build Yves Piaget or Royal Montegobay and needs reference photos they can be found on my photography page.

Look forward to starting my kits in the near future!

I just received mine today, just in time to take place under Christmas tree !! :naughty: :grinyes:

Mine has beautifull casting, better than what I can see in the review above.
Very nice model !

Still some assembly subtleties to clear in my mind to perfectly fit everything... :icon16:

One strange thing is that I have two different seats in the same pair... can't really explain how it's possible... :screwy:

It stays a good kit with justified price. I'm happy to have it.

congratulations C1-Models

probably they also like such subject.
HD best part is usually the PE details,in all their models such ones are true masterpieces.
Curious about the price of this Tk though...

You are right, Paolo, the etched parts are great, but in the last years it looks like a competition between some manufacturers: who can place more etched parts in the package. There seems to be no thought, if the etched parts make sense on a model or not. Some of the echted parts are nearly impossible to bent (-> those dics for the brakes with vents) or simply wrong

F.e. I don´t replace the plasic pedals with etched parts, if the car is closed. Nobody will see ...

...another example: Last week I was in Hockenheim looking at the Audi DTM car from 2011 (?), now racing in a different series. Standing next to the car you cannot see the carbon in the interior, so why doing it at the model ?
