First look for where the slop is and then repair that place.
Or take it to a repair shop and let them check it out and or fix it.

the steering gear is the usual cause of this. first you must have the complete front end steering arms/ball joints/tie rods/idler arm/pitman arm tested for excessive wear.
if the steering gear does require replacement get a scrap yard unit rather than a rebuilt one. many have had problems with the rebuit ones failing quickly .
trying to adjust the box gear play will not work. the gears if worn are the problem . this is because the fluid was never changed or contaminated with water.
at this time check the front hubs and control arm bushings for wear.
