Ok..Where did they hide it?

Does anyone know where they hid the dipstick for the transaxle (transmisson) on the 2006 chevy equinox And is the dextron 6 ok to use in this veh?

The dipstick has a round yellow handle, and is held in with a bolt that has a 12mm head. I've had the best luck removing it from the underside by prying it up with the box end of a small (I use 10mm) wrench.

Dexron VI is the wrong fluid for this transmission. The correct fluid is GM T-IV (GM p/n 88900925). This costs about $18/qt from any GM stealership. You can pay a visit to your local Toyota dealer and buy the same stuff (Toyota T-IV fluid - p/n 00279-000T4-01) for about $6/qt. Both of these fluids meet the JWS 3309 service specification for the Aisin AW55-51 5-speed automatic transmission used in the 2005-2009 Equinox w/3400 engine.

I've attached some PDF files that you will find to be useful. A 2007 Equinox is referenced in them, but the info is applicable to all 2005-2009 Equinox w/3400 engine - which all have the Aisin AW55-51 5-speed automatic transmission.

Thanks again for the very helpful info. One more q though, Where is the trans. filter located?.. I take it by looking at the housing that it is an internal filter that reguires the trans. to be broken down. Is this correct.?

Yes, this is correct.

There is no Trans dipstick in the 2.4 4 cy .
