Carbon Buildup

I'm replacing my knock sensors and intake gaskets on a 2001 silverado and there is a lot of carbon buildup in the intake, what can i use to safely clean it with....

ok guys i change out my knock sensors and intake gaskets today on my 2001 silverado, clean as much carbon buildup, put everything back together and torque to spec, clean all the grease from under my fingernails and started it up, it ran rough at first then smooth out, drove around the block and now i got a code P0107. What did i do wrong. Help!!!!!

this would mean the MAP has a low output. at idle the voltage signal should be about 1.5volts. my guess is the MAP wiring connector etc is what wrong. possible you broke it somehow also.

J cAT, i rechecked all my wires and the problem was i didn't plug the MAP wiring connector on the back of the intake. Plugged it back in reset the code and so far so good. Thanks.
Now my next project is my gas hand, its bounce back and forth, with a full tank of gas its shows empty. Do i have to replace entire fuel pump or is it possible to just replace the sending fuel unit.Thanks.

the MAP not connected would cause this for sure.

since this is a 10 plus yr old vehicle, the fuel pump should be replaced. the sender is part of it. the new delphi fuel pumps are different than the old models. most have found them better at not having the fuel tank sender failure with these purchased currently.

removal of the bed , slide it back about two feet is no big deal. dropping the tank is a PITA.

remove the tires for this slide.unbolt the fuel filler.disconnect the electrical lighting connectors at the rear junction block.
with the bumper you unbolt from the frame then lift the bed about 2 inches and remove the bumper. place 2X4 on the top of the frame then slide bed back. the bed has 8 bolts. use penitrating oil a few days on these prior to removal. if they are hard to remove spray and work them in / out so as to not damage them. using an air gun could break them.

This morning i tackle my fuel pump. There is eight bolts, what i did was removed the four bolts on the driver side the, two front on the passenger side and loosen the rear ones on the passenger side. Then with a 2x4 and an hydraulic jack, two jack stands i placed the 2x4 in the front center of the bed and raised the bed placed jack stand on both sides, removed the tire and fender well and there it is. From start to finish, one bud light, 1 hour 45 mins by myself. Hope this help someone else.
