03 Sable making a "creaking" noise

When I accelerate from a stop, at the first motion the car makes a a creaking noise like an old wooden ship. It's not continuous. It also happens when I hit the brake, again only for a second. It sounds like it is right under my legs/feet. Could it be a body mount or a broken weld? Any knowledge or advice would be appreciated.

Had a similar issue on my 2000 Merc Sable. Ended up being a dry ball joint. Started as a 'one time' on start and stop and progressed to over every bump/change in road level before it was repaired.

Hmmmm. That wasn't something I had considered. Thanks!

I had this same issue with our 2000 sable. Also turned out to be a bad ball joint. I thought it was the strut that was squeaking. Sprayed with WD-40 but the squeak kept getting worse. I had the car in to the shop for an unrelated issue and they told me there was a bad ball joint. Had it replaced and no more squeak.

Well that's two replies pointing to the ball joint(s). Thanks for the reply!

I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote the reply, but it was the tie rod end that was making all of the noise, not the ball joint. So sorry about that.
