Check for applicable trouble codes/ security trouble codes. To check codes, at the least, you need an obd2 code reader. The security codes are P1 abd B codes, so if you get a code reader, make sure it will cover P1 and B codes, not just Po codes. Some of the national brand autostores will check codes for you. I don't know if they can check all different types of codes? I would be afraid to drive it with the security lite on.

I have had this issue along with a few other issues; the climate control would not turn on properly, cruise would not work and it wouldn't start sometimes. All things described were sporadic and intermittent. What ended up fixing it was putting in a new ignition harness. I found one online at Rock Auto for less than $40. My local NAPA store wanted over $80 for this. The repair was fairly easy but involved tearing the dash apart.

Everything now works as it should and no more security light on.

If the SECURITY light came on after the vehicle started and ran, and is related to the fuel enable signal, the car goes into a backup mode, which enables it to start, even if a fuel enable signal is not present......however, if for some reason you clear the code, and this problem is present during cranking the vehicle, THEN it won't start....

As stated, "P" and "B" codes need to be read......but if you clear them, beware...
