Hello,

1999 Grand Prix SE with 194000 miles has developed a vibration in the passenger compartment. Car sounds normal from the outside. The vibration is the worst while stopped with the motor idling and transmission in gear. From what I have read here on other posts, this could be a bad engine mount, and it is a tough repair. Can anyone give me a idea of what a fair price is for a shop to do the job? I am in New Jersey, if that makes a difference. Also, is there anything else that could cause this type of vibration? I looked at the tranny mount and it seems OK. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I think you are on the right track with the mounts. With 194k on it, you may look at having all the mounts replaced. The lower mount (nearest the balancer/crank pully) runs about 120.00 OEM, maybe cheaper aftermarket, and about 2.0hrs labor (2 x shop labor rate).

Thanks for the very fast reply. I will get the car checked out and consider
replacing the other mounts if it is not too much extra. Not sure how much longer I will have this car but she has served me well for over four years and 65000 miles. At least I know about what it should cost. I will post back if it turns out to be something else.

Got the car fixed today cost a total of $248.00 parts and labor. It was an excellent price I think. The other mounts looked ok to the mechanic so we just changed the lower and now the noise is completely gone. He showed me the old mount...I did not waste my money.
