IF YOU LIVE IN THE RUST BELT !
I strongly recommend anyone with these vehicles 1999-2006 inspect the crossmember at the top of the fuel tank for corrosion.
The fuel tank channel that this crossmember sets in , traps corrosive chemicals. the crossmember was coated with a non penitrating wax based material that actually holds these chemicals to speed up failure.
What can occur is the passenger side shock will fall down along with the fuel tank. this can cause loss of control etc.

the repair was completed today . It was difficult finding a frame shop with the experience in this repair.
the frame shop made a new crossmember and welded into place. the new metal tube is much better than the GM original. they also used a mineral based coating on the welds/metal.
anyone with this make sure that the frame shop has done this before or you could pay more for a very poor job. cost 400.
