celica and supra specs

i found a nifty site with specs for all years of celica and supra. just thought i would share that with the class. only problem is the 22r-e engine in the 3rd gen celica was a DOHC not a SOHC. http://celica.henryvo.com/genengine.html

now will it be a shot of the engines head with the valve cover off or just of 2 cams sitting on a counter top

there is a rumor about how back in the day TRD racing devloped 10 top secret twin cam 22R heads. they were made specifically for some truck racing series that Toyota had a couple factory sponsored trucks racing and they had to run heads available from toyota. so they made the heads and tested them privately but they never went into production and never made it out of the warehouse because they were destroyed. so if you show your pics and you have the rumored 22R twin cam head i will give you my left nut and whatever else you wish for it!!!

its not a 22R thats what im saying. post pics with the valve cover off and so i can see the block ID # at the same time then take pics of the # on the head and the take a seperate pic of the block number so i can see it clearly.

i havent the slightest idea where the head's ID# is, but it is a 22RE. i have chiltons guide and its the SAME engine as came stock in the 85 celica. but mine has DOHC. im lazy but im workin on the pics.

the engine that came stock in an 85 celica was the 22RE or 22REC both are single over head cam EFI motors. the code will wither be stamped on the front or back of the head and block. now in 85 they made a celica supra which had a 6MGE which was DOHC. if the previous owner pulled that out of an 85 celica/supra then you would have DOHC but it wouldnt be a 22RE.

yeah but if hes dumb enough to think he has a DOHC 22RE he might not notice that he has 2 extra cylinders.

his car easily does 14's according to him, and all he has is a home made CAI, removed cat, and a header.

and oh yeah, he has a cracked block and messed up sport transmission.

if he had the 6mge then he would probably be able to run 14s pretty easy. they make about 190hp then if he had a CAI that would up it to about 195hp.

even if he did have a DOHC 22RE he still wouldnt be running 14s easily. maybe mid to high 16s. figure a stock 22RE in 95 was 95hp and 136lbft of torque. with a DOHC head the 4age of that time made 128hp. to lets say with double the capacity the engine makes 150hp and about 145lb ft of torque with slightly higher revs in the 6500rpm range. a header and CAI might get him up to 160hp because of the limited perfermance potential of the 22RE computer. even the 22RTE computer has its limits with boost. he wouldnt be running 14s maybe high 15s but 14s easily is a joke.

But I think you have to be a very special kind of stupid if you can't count how many cams you have, so lets assume that "sk8nb" does have 2 cams and not some very serious counting disorder, then he must just have a different engine from the one he thinks. Problem solved.

well here i am to put my foot in my mouth. :banghead: its SOHC. ive just smoked myself stupid over the past couple of years. anyway, i admit it, im dumb. question for yoy guys, would it be possible to get a supra 5mge into my celica. i blew an exhaust valve and its gonna be a bitch to fix. i can get my supra engine for 200 bux, and get it put in for some more money. but the question is, am i gonna have to fuck with the engine bay to get it put in?

itll bolt in might have to move radiator under support but it bolts up otherwise. check out toysport they have a 7mgte in a convertible. and a friend of mine has a 7mge in a 77 liftback and i test fitted a 7mgte in my car and it fit right in.

so far weve figured, were gonna have to swap the k support (whatever the part with the motor mounts is called, thats what he called it.) and cut a little bit out of the front end. also gonna have to lift a spot on the hood. sound about right?

shouldnt have to cut the crossmember. just get some 5M engine mounts. and the trans and bellhousing from an 82-86 (not 86.5) supra and you're set. might have to cut the core support but you should be able to just retro fit the radiator under neath the support.

well, with a few drugs and the grace of god, i think this will work. everyone keep your fingers crossed.
