drive cycle question

2006 model i have replaced gas cap because i was getting a pending evaporative emissions vent valve solenoid code but i cant clear it with my code reader i guess because its pending a drive cycle my question is how long will it take to clear and will it clear on its own or is there a trick i can clear it i.e. disconnect batt. dont want to replace solenoid unless i have to
