93 civic dx hatchback, with 1996 1.6L Del sol engine. 5speed lsd transmition.

Symptoms: While driving, at a Cruising speed. Not off the throttle but not on it either, just cruising. Notice the car very randomly will loose acceleration, and the idol drops way down, car never stalls but does feel like its going to. usually if i stop the car, the idol gets really low almost stalls then revs up and starts running perfectly again for a few miles or can run fine all day. Then it will do it again randomly. and lately it has been doing it more often. it used to do it 1 or 2 times a month.. now it does it once or twice eveyr time i drive the car.

If it starts to do it while driving. If you lightly press the gas, the car hops and sputters and sounds like it wants to die while slowing down and loosing power. Zero acceleration. But if it starts doing it and i push the pedal to the floor, it accelerates no problem.. As long as i push it to the floor it seems to get itself passed whatever the problem is and goes fine. It fixes the problem temporarily, but always ends up happeneing again and again....

When the car isnt Hickupping. i would say it runs great, sounds good, has good power. Even when it hesitates and looses power, i can full throttle and it will go, temporarily fix itself. then eventually does it again... any ideas?

It feels like its Hydrolocking. Yet it does it completly dry days/weeks. first time it did it was in the rain.. But after a few months i realized its not hydrolocking, it can be dry for days and it still will occasionally show itself... any ideas on where to start or look would be great... im thinking a sensor issue of some sort,, just not sure where to start... maybe it egr valve or something... grrrr

How old are your spark plugs and spark plug wires? If it's been a while since the plugs were replaced, replace them and see if that fixes it. To test the wires, get a squirt bottle with some water, start the car, and spray the wires. Listen for any change in idle, when the water hits the wires. If the idle changes, your wires are bad.

That was the first thing i did was check wires and plugs.. and all of them seem to be ok, only thing i havent done yet is check the distributor cap and the sensors... But wires and plugs are ok... I started brainstorming,,, maybe its the MAF sensor, cause it def started happening more often after that rainny day... possibly MAF got wet or something and isnt getting a proper connection... Any hints on cleaning it? never had to before... Also can the EGR valve or 02 sensor cause this as well?

The wires and plugs are aprox 6months old... i still checked them even though i was pretty confident that they where not the problem... made sure non of them are touching the head or wearing out on any brackets... all seems well... it also didnt act up on the way to work today 20min drive... had a smooth one... but at lunch i started the car and let it run a little and it had a moment where it dropped revs low, almost stalled then reved up to about 1grand. and held idol nicely the rest of the time.. not sure if that helps diagnose.. it did it first time without driving.. just sitting running in nuetral..
