Pulling the driver side front axle - 93 Regal

Both bearing/hub assemblies have been removed. The driver side axle assembly came right out with very little hassle. The passenger side axle assembly doesn't want to cooperate. I know there is a machined slot on each of the three humps on the spider housing that I am supposed to use to pry the thing out with but it won't budge.

In case it matters, I'm pulling both the engine and the transmission and the engine is already out.

You can ususally use a prybar between the trans housing and the inner joint, or two bars, one on either side of the joint and prying at the same time. Also can use the tip of a flat prybar on the grooves that you are describing and hit the other end of the bar with a hammer to drive the axle out. All of these have worked for me.

Thanks for this. Prying against the housing worked well on the passenger side. With the engine out it was easy to access this area and it all popped right out with very little effort. On the driver side, however, access is limited to coming in from underneath and it's difficult to get anything in there between the spider housing and the trans case. I'm reluctant to try this anyway as the case in that area appears to be thin formed steel (thicker cast aluminum on the passgenger side) and I am concerned about bending it in some way. The car is on stands, incidentally. I do not have a lift. So I'll try your pry bar/hammer technique and see what happens.
