Two questions ,my keyless remote quit working on my 91 SSE. Putting in new batteries did not help. If the batteries go completely dead will the remote lose it's program?
If the remote is bad,will any GM remote with the same FCC ID work if programmed to the car? OOP's three question's.How do you program it to the car ? The fcc # is ABO0103T. Thanks for help on this.:confused:

Well, I assume you only have one remote.....

First, and foremost, you need to know if the remote works......bring it to any GM parts counter, and they can test this remote.....if it doesn't work, since you put a new battery in, you need a new remote....as you stated, it has to have the same number on the back of the old remote....

With a working remote, you have to put the vehicle in programming mode.....you have to "jumper" two of the terminals in the ALDL connector.....then you turn the ignition key to "on"(don't start).....when you do this, the door locks will cycle once....then press and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time.....when the door locks cycle again, the fob is programmed.....

I don't remember which two terminals you have to jumper.....perhaps GMTech1 can answer this......also, I'm not really sure if you hold both buttons, or just one of them(lock or unlock?).....GMTech1 or someone should be able to give the answer....

Thanks for the reply.Yes,only have the one can't find the other one. I have learned several things while investigating this problem. The wireless remotes are the transmitters,The receivers are what you program and they are a mystery somewhere in the car.
I thought there might be a way to test the output of the remote.Someone may know a way without going to the dealer.I hate to buy a new remote without testing the one I have.
I'm sure you are familiar with the ALDL terminal ,hope someone will know which two.
A= ground E=serial data
B=diagnostic F=TCC
C=A.I.R. if used G=fuel pump
D=service engine light M=serial data

The car parts stores have a test station for the keyless remotes.Mine is putting out a signal.I guess that leaves the receiver as the problem.
How do I reprogram it or find it's location in the car? Sure hope someone out there knows.

Good news bad news! I found the wires that you jump behind the glove bow.Two go to a connector that clips to the side of the box fram just above the trunk open button. Jumping those together cycles the door locks and supposidly puts it in program mode. Unfortunatley my remote did not program the receiver.It still doesn't work.
Now for bad part I need to find the receiver. It doesn't show on any wiring diagrams that I have. Does anyone know where the receiver is????

If the system cycled then the Receiver was ready to learn the remote... There were issues with the antenna inside the unit, its possible that you could have a bad solder joint or the receiver is shot..

The Receiver is buried up under the dash, say to the left of the Bonneville SSE Logo and up quite high.. Its hell to get to it... I used to have a part number for the unit new, ans I believe it can still be had new... Its no fun...

On this car with this keyless most of the relays for the lock and trunk control are built in to the unit.... On the later Bonneville( 92+ ) the Keyless system controls the external solenoids in the relay center...

Before my 91 LE was wrecked people looked at me funny when I popped the trunk with the remote.... LMAO... Guess they didn't think an old car could have keyless...

Hope that helps

Thanks for the reply. I found the receiver behind the glove box as I menthoned. Actually took the thing apart and inspected it. Did not see anything obvious ,it's hard to tell on a printed circut board.
I did re-program it again and it worked for a day ,then quit again.If I thought it was the remote I would try to get one with the same numer on e-bay.
The receiver may be more of a problem,probably need to find one from a 91.

Still at it with my door lock problem. I found a receiver and a wireless key fobb ,installed it and programmed it .It worked just fine except for trunk lock,it still won't work.One hour later it quit working and the doors were locked. To open the car I had to use the key,that sets off the alarm.The key in the ignition does nothing.Had to disconnect battery cable to silence alarm. Unless I can get this working ,I can't lock the car. Help!
