Hi There,
I have an 05 silverado 1500 crew cab z71 and i have a little bit of an issue with my Check Engine Light being on. The problem is when i tried to pull the code from the computer it wouldnt even read that it was plugged in at all. I talked to a buddy of mine and he said that could possibly be the reason its on. What im trying to figure out is what i have to do to remedy the situation so that i can actually be able to pull codes in the future. My truck inspection is out and need this light fixed Asap any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also every once in a while my battery light comes on and it says i need to service my charging system if anyone could let me know a little more about that it would help me out also because i have never seen it before.

Thank you so much,
RyanD

If the scanner will not power up, you probably have a blown "cigar" fuse in the underhood fuse box. Check the fuses.

the scanner does get power from the 15amp cigar fuse. this goes to the power ports and to the DLC connector where you plug in the scanner to get the dtc.

the charging issue light may mean a short circuit.

this short could be the alternator diodes going.could also be the voltage regulator/brushes in the alternator as well.

my alternator failed with 100,ooomi on it . and my batteries last 7 yrs then I just change them . so what I am saying is these alternators are weak ! If the alternator is n/g buy a new alternator no rebuild crap.

autozone has lifetime alternator with the lifetime warrantee. new. that is what I got. 3yrs now still good. my regulator corroded .

new alternator has the updated regulator.
