looking for a new engine

I currently have a 1987 pontiac firebird base model 2.6L

I was thinking of changing the engine. Would it be possible to get a more recent engine with "todays" technology put into my car?

If not can you please suggest others?

I'm also interested in rebuilding the current one, can you please suggest websites where I can buy pieces from?
