1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue 3.8L 253,000 estimated miles.
This afternoon my car just died on me. I was on my home from work on the highway. Since traffic thinned out, I set it to cruise on 70mph. This occured near the exit to my house. I noticed the car bucked and looked at the instrument panel. The oil pressure light popped on and realized the engine shut off. Pulled to the shoulder and plugged in my scanner. My scanner picked up U1255 which is a communication error from module to module. No other code accompanied it. I looked under the hood for any visible signs that caused this problem, nothing. Got back in the car and the engine cranked.
However I didn't make it that far as the car reacted the same way. This happened over and over and each time I hooked the scanner up, the same code was still there and no other trouble codes popped up. One of the features on my scannner has reported fixes on certain codes. The top reported fix was "replaced BCM" while a uncommon fix was "replace ignition switch".
My last attempt at cranking, I was able to drive the car to the exit and into the local gas station. But only this time I drove it at a slower speed while the previous attempts I had to gun it to get back on the highway. Maybe there is a connection there with the increase of speed but not totally sure.
If anyone has dealt with this problem I would love to know how you dealt with it and what parts are in association with the BCM, also what do I need look for cause this is one of those codes that has alot of possible culprits behind it.

IPC U1255 code?

My 98 eldo with 53K on the clock has been jerking while stopped almost like it is hesitating. I changed the plugs, wires, fpr, and nothing. I have posted this before but never got a code until now. I got an IPC U1255 History code-Class 2 Communication Malfunction and no other codes. How am I supposed to determine which module sent the code?

Found this when trying to figure out what the 1255 code was:
This information applies to all GM vehicles Using Class 2 communication.
DTC U1000 or U1255 may set current or history, with or without other DTCs.
These DTCs set when the control module does not receive a message that it was expecting from another control module, and does not know which control module did not send the message.
If the DTC U1000 or U1255 is set in history with other DTCs set current or history, diagnose the other DTCs first.
If the DTC U1000 or U1255 is set current, this usually indicates a module that is currently not communicating or a configuration issue. For example, if the control module is configured for an option (i.e., OnStar, keyless entry, memory mirrors, etc.) that the vehicle does not have, it may expect to receive a message regarding this missing feature. This would usually occur due to the control module being recently replaced and incorrectly set up.
When the DTC U1000 or U1255 is current, the module that is not communicating may not even be listed on the Tech 2 on the Diagnostic Circuit Check /Class 2 Message Monitor list.
If the DTC U1000 or U1255 has set in history without other DTCs, replacing the control module that set the DTC is most likely NOT the solution. The module that has set the code is looking for an input from another module that is not communicating. Because the module did not receive an input that it is expecting to see, it sets a U1000 or U1255 which indicates there was a loss of communications. Look at the customer's concern (i.e., intermittent, erratic tachometer operation). This will probably be a better indication of the control module that is the source of the concern.
Hope this helps.

Under Diagnostic Aids for DTC U1255 Serial Data Line Class 2 Init. Error in the 98 Eldo shop manual- This DTC cannot be rertrieved with a current status. Diagnosis of a current U1255 is accomplished via the symptom, Scan Tool will not Communicate with the Class 2 serial data line...An intermittent condition is likely to be caused by a short to ground on the Class 2 serial data line.
The other section on U1255 basically states that: one of the modules that is requesting initialization data from another module is not being acknowleged within 5 secs, and the DTC sets. DTC U1255 Serial Data line Malfunction is located on 8-457 in the Wiring Systems section of Body and Accessories in the Eldo shop manual and on 9-106 in the Restraints section of SIR.

=Tech2 may find this and maybe it cannot. Try to see if you can find the problem yourself and then maybe try a Tech2.

Went to the gas station to get the car home. I waited till after midnight when there would be little to no vehicles on the road cause the road to my house has three large hills and didn't want the car to die on the way up the hill. The ride home was smooth. The car didn't die, no symptoms. Earlier as I got it to the exit, I drove it at a slower speed thinking it may have something to do with it. With that idea, about halfway to the house, I hit the accelator, driving it 70 mph and no issue (no cops thank God). The car did fine. Maybe it was a fluke but I don't like the uncertainty of taking the highway to work and it does it again.
I looked under the dash for any broken wires and loose connections but didn't see any, my scanner isn't seeing any codes. Wish my scanner would show which module wasn't communicating.
