Engine is overheating and I'm getting mixed messages and estimates from the auto techs here in town. After looking at the engine and considering the free time I have, I believe its doable to install new head gaskets to hopefully solve the overheating and volcanic like episodes in the radiator; which was replaced.

My question is do I need a lift for removing and reinstalling the heads? I'm wondering I may need to use a lift if its a heavy part and that to precisely replace the heads to prevent harming the gaskets. But I was thinking of going with the metal gaskets.

Your input is valuable and please add any advice that you believe I may have missed or that you may think is worth knowing. I'm no auto genius like you guys.

Thanks

If this is going to be you first cylinder head job, you should have a shop manual, you do not need any type of lifting device to handle the heads unless you are exceptionally weak, Fel Pro composite gaskets not steel shim are the best way to go, diagnosis here is very important as mentioned in the other posts.
