Several Problems...

My car was eating serpentine belts. It would eat one ribbon off of the inside, and then run just fine. It's ran this way for probably about six months, but I didn't want to have a compromised belt on the car, so I replaced it, and the a/c pulley.

Since replacing the a/c pully, the car has thrown the serpentine belt off of itself about four times, and now it won't run at all, unless you have your foot down on the gas. When it starts like this, TONS of exhaust smoke pours out. It will continue to run, but idles very roughly, idling high most of the time.

It's also still eating the serpentine belt....more ravenously than ever. :(

Serpentine belts are an expensive habit, at $25 each. How can I get my car to kick the habit? Why won't it start now? Why does it idle so roughly, and what can I do to determine the problem?

I took at look at the plug wires, and they're probably older than I am....well, that's technically impossible, but I digress. They're old, let's just leave it at that. I plan to replace them in the next couple of days (and the plugs, of course). Does anyone think this could be the problem?

.....anyone?

Until then....I'll just continue doing this... :banghead:

Could have an alignment problem with all the pulleys or a bad tensioner....

What color is the tons of smoke that comes out? losing coolant?
