led strip lighting

Hello everyone. I was wondering if it would be possible to install led strip lighting that would turn on when the dome light comes on. Could I splice the wiring to the dome lights and tap into them? I'd like them to come on automatically when the doors open so that I wouldn't need a switch. The car is a 2003 Pontiac vibe gt. Any help would be appreciated.

Depends on the current load of the led's.....is the wiring of the circuit large enough to handle the added current, as well as the fuse? As a general rule, led's don't draw too much current, but you don't say how many are added to the circuit.....

Need to find the best place to tap in the circuit for dome light, you might even consider using a LED dome light too. www.alldata.com

Thanks for your response! I would like to add about 8 feet, 4 feet on each interior side of the car, but there are only two dome lights to tap into. Would replacing the halogen bulb with an led, like danielsature suggests, reduce the load enough to carry that amount of leds? What do you think the limitations would be as far as how many feet of leds the circuit could handle?

Power (P)= Voltage(E) X current (I)
P=E X I

Voltage (E) = Current (I) X resistance (R)
E=I X R

12volts
How many amp Fuse ?
Traditional Dome uses how many watts?
How many watts per foot?
How many leds are being used total?

Did you do this in the end?

I bought led strips from a website called LizardLeds, and they sell wireless remote dimmer switches with them so you could turn the lights on with the remote while walking to your car, much easier in my opinion.
