This is my new project.... I need to paint and glue something.... not only to finish my kits started many years ago... This kit has not the tamiya standard but even if it shows some poor enginering you may find excellent details. The chain is not sharp and the exhaust is not smooth, it needs a good sanding job

Some pictures:
cause of the wind outside I lost the oil plug so I made a new one:

Hi Andrea - you really are doing the best job so far on the ZX-10R - there are two other being built on the forum, but you have the best skills of the builders. I really like what you have done so far - excellent attention to detail as usual with your work. What company and part number is the "mesh screen" you are using on the Radiator? I want to get some of that type. I bought the Top Studio detail kit for when I build mine - I will follow you thread and wonderful work. Oh by the way an excellent job on the brakes - very realistic looking - John

As usual for you, excellent attention to detail Andrea. Did you find it difficult to assemble the parts? some of the builders have said that because there are no screws to assemble the pieces it can be difficult. I like the touches you have added to the headlight. The wheel and disc look amazingly real. So far your build is very clean. - John

Hello John, it's not a tamiya kit approach, it's like a transkit approach.... test fitting everithing. In fact I have not started the fairing yet because you have to sand , align, putting etc....
In the meanwhile the engine is placed into the frame....

Received today the yellow Zx-10R .... I was surprised to find into the box a p.e. sheet.... :iceslolan
The only question is: is it possible fujimi forgot the shift linkage and made the p.e. gear lever with the same strange pin on the lower side? Will not be true the linkage is missing on the real bike????

Discovered the mesh front the front air intake into the fujimi p.e. for the yellow one , I removed the black closing. It seemed strange to me it was a closed hole.... After some @#[#*##@ I placed a tamiya mesh and I gave a black layer of paint

I made two little holes on the swing arm stud and placed the chain tensioners:

To make the shift linkage I used the top studio Yamaha YZR one the longest. But it's always short. After an hour of rethinking I decidec for a copper tube of the exact measure. So I made an extension of 1-2 mm

WOW Andrea - Beautiful replication of the heat staining on the pipe - one question though - if the pipe is stainless steel then the pipe and exhaust can should only have a goldish hue to it, but if the pipe and exhaust can are titanium then the heat staining is right but the pipe and exhaust can should not be "chrome" shiny - it should be more a flat brushed silver. I've never seen the grade titanium used for exhausts that is chrome - just my thoughts - It does look good though - I like the way you blended the Blue, violet and the gold on the heat staining - John

Just a thought--you might get better effects with the Alclad if you use an enamel base. It almost always comes out shinier and more life-like when I do. Yours looks to be nice but it's just a thought...

Enamel or laquer shoud be the same... do you think enamel is better? On the last 3 pictures chrome is covered with alclad aqua gloss.... could it be this the problem? Anyway the ts-14 was not very smooth (mirror finish).... I didn't polish it so this could be another issue....:uhoh:

I too have better results spraying a semi gloss black enamel under alclad. You can buy a big can of enamel spray paint for cheap. The alclad sticks better to it.

Andrea - your usual excellent work - you have done a great job so far on this crap kit - sadly I bought 3 different versions of it - 1 2010 and 2-2011 kits. very unhappy with what Fujimi puts out, but you are doing well - I'm not sure I have your skill set. Hopefully everything will go well with the from cowl - John

Thanks John, the kit is not so bad as described, yes there are some issue but with patience you may solve everything. I have 4 kits too... 2 2010 and 2 2011. I decided to make this out of the box but every step you go ahead and more you want to improve it.... for the second one I have the top studio detail set.... and so for the 2011.
Now fujimi released the 2012 version.... :iceslolan

Andrea - I saw the Suzuka 8 hrs and the Trickstar entry crashed while trying to lead. The team had high hopes but they low-sided out while leading and destroyed the bike - I don't remember them returning later in the race sadly. I think they DNF'd the race. it was another Purple bike and I believe they only had the one entry this year. - John
The reason why I think they are crap quality is because they cost more than a Tamya bike kit but are half the quality - and the plastic is funny - not like Tamiya plastic - John

I don't think it's "crap" but with a big TS kit, it could be really, really nice. It will take more work to get it to a Tam kit but hey--this didn't start out life as a Tam kit! :icon16:

Racer93 - my reference for the quote was a comparison to a Tamiya kit - the Fujimi ZX-10R kits cost me more than a 2009 M-1 Tamiya kit - I guess my expecting Tamiya quality from a Fujimi kit of equal or more value is asking for "too much". The Fujimi racing kits are not even the quality of the Hasegawa - RS250RW or NSR250 kits. - John

To be honest, Hase has ALWAYS been a better model company than Fujimi in most every area. Planes, cars, etc. I've always liked Hase's detail better, especially their bikes of late. It's just sad that neither can compare anywhere close to T, yet...
Maybe we can hope Ebbro starts doing bikes? ;)

Racer93 - I've been predominantly a Tamiya model builder most of my modeling life - Hasegawa does some nice sports racer "body" detail kits, but all their leMans racers I have bought have been without engine-trans details and minimal suspension. So I stopped buying Hasegawa kits a long time ago until the Moto kits - as for Fujimi I only have 4 of their Porsche GT3R for the "flying lizard" builds, and 2 "anime" kits and the BMW Z4 GT3s - not sure what livery I will b using on that. - I have the 2 "anime kits" and 1 "BMW" version. I prefer the Tamiya kits by far and I'm happy to see new "racing kits" due to release soon. - John

I ended to decalize the tank and the rear. The strip on the tank is not really correct.... it shoub be more vertical and near to the seat but fujimi made the decal in 2 pieces and that was the only position to match the 2 decals...

on the front cowl another issue... too many curves to lay down the flat decal. So I trim the edge with the green line and cutted the decal where is the red circle. Next step paint the inner with gloss black

Andrea - your solution doesn't look bad - another "pitfall" of the Fujimi kit - are you going to clear the paint work with 2K clear? I was going to order one of the Top Studio detail kits for the 2011 ZX-10R for when I build mine - I see that they include a shifter "rod" shaft in the detail kit. I just received the Top Studio detail kit for the 85' Yamaha FZR-750 "tech-21" endurance bike. I buy 1 Top studio detail set every month and eventually I will have them for all my moto kits. I'm hoping Johnson will make a set for the 87' YZR-750 Yamaha endurance "Suzuka" kits. Hey Andrea - remember the next time you do a Top Studio chain to do a tutorial for it - I still haven't been able to build one of those successfully - John

Hello John
yes I will clear coat the paintwork with 2k. I'm working on the fairngs' decal and the are many issues there too. Some decal are short, some don't cover the recessed area and so there is need of many touch up with the airbrush. To not speak about the right fairing where a piece of decal goes on the frame... tomorrow will post some pictures.I have the detail set for 2010 and 2011 and for FZR 750. I'm also waiting the one for the YZR... :iceslolan
About chains: I have them but never built.....:p

sorry Andrea - maybe I got you confused with Sandro for the Top Studio chains - I thought you had built one successfully. I know Sandro has done several - I will email him to see if he is going to build another one soon. Is there much difference between the 2010 and 2011 ZX-10R detail sets? - John

Hello here it is where the touch up is needed. I was lucky enough to obtain the same green on the edge of the fairing. It was paint with brush. I need to paint the 2 black lines....
You may also see the part of the decal which goes on the frame.... I have also to touch up it

Wow Andrea -very nice - best ZX-10R paint job so far - did you clearcoat that or is that just the paint gloss? The stand also looks good - is that the stand that comes in the kit? t's not a dedicated racing stand though?? That type of stand is usually sold as a "universal" stand for many different bikes - one size fits all concept - still it all looks really good - John
