Pontiac Bonneville SSEi (S/C) year 1992. (at Brazil)
Dear member friends:
Is it true that the 3.8L/SC engine, year 1992 has two coolant
temp sensor? ( One, under the MAP that send the message (volts) to PCM and another, under the air intake that send the message to the dash )
I´m running hot (220 F) with a bad gaz mileage. (14miles/gallon drive town)
I did new water pump, cleanned the system, 50% water/50% GM Ethilenoglycol, no leaks, new O2 sensor(Delphy), new EGR valve, EGR tubes with no leaks, new FPR, new AC R45TLS6 plugs gapped 1,52mm (0,060), new AC premiun wires, new MAF, TB cleanned, new fuel filter, new air filter, fuel pump checked with 48PSI, new PCV, BTW all the stuffs under the sky that I could here in Brasil was replace.
No CEL light.
Will be my Temp sensor?
Any tips will be welcome.:screwy:

The vehicle does have two separate sensors. The sensor for the dash gauge will have one yellow wire and one black wire with a white line. The sensor for the PCM will have one yellow wire and one black wire. The PCM sensor is the one that controls the cooling fans and can cause poor gas mileage if it is malfunctioning. With regards to your poor mileage, have you determined if the PCM is going into closed loop operation when the engine is warmed up? If it stays in open loop this will cause poor mileage.

Yes its true. It has two sensors. They are MAF sensor and crankshaft sensor. MAF sensor is located between the air filter and throttle body, whereas crankshaft sensor is located in passenger side, behind the tire. ecartman: Thanks a lot for your explanation. I belive that I have both with failure. My temp dash gauche reach easily 220F with a warmer engine after 2 minutes running (I can touch the engine with my hand without burn off) and
the another sensor that send signal to PCM should be bad as well going into open loop telling to PCM for to go rich.
As I´m in Brazil , I need to order this sensor at RockAuto (USA) and I beg you for one more help.
Does this both sensor are the same?
Again with my thanks and my best regards.

Jeff Collision:
Thanks Jeff for tray to help me.
I had a daud about the Coolant tem sensor (How many fit may car), not about how many sensor the SSEi has. My MAF and crankshaft sensor still
in good shape.
BTW was valid your effort.
My best regards.

I believe they are the same sensor. Check the connector on both sensors to see if they are the same, if they are then the sensors will be the same. Good Luck!

Dear ecartman:
I will do check my connector as you advice me even that the sensor below the MAF sensor it´s hard to grasp. I belive too that be the same. I hope.
I´m going to wait my engine cooling down for to do that.
I will let you know what is going on.
Thankkkkkkkkkkkks
