In desperate need of help - Fuel Delivery System Problems

Recently, Mrs drove 1990 GMC 5.7 Sierra and parked on hill with little gas in it (4 to 1 grade with front of truck higher than back of truck). Truck would not start, good samaritan put a little gas in carb. Truck started but wanted to stall and the Mrs was working the pedal. To no avail, engine stalled and backfired complete with flames from TBI (should have put breather cover back on before attempting to start). Story is, flames from raw fuel, - nothing big - did not go out immediately.

Here's the problem - engine has ALWAYS started and ran perfectly. Now it doesn't.

Have put plenty of fuel in tank because of hill and have since pulled truck to level ground. Will only run if primed. When fuel from priming is gone it dies.

When this incident took place, I'm told raw fule burned for 10 seconds. Truck is on the side of the road (enough so it won't get towed) almost two hours away.

Could flames from backfiring harmed injectors?
Could flames have harmed wiring that runs to the injectors?

Or might it be nothing more than standard check of the fuel delevery system; fuse, relay, filter and fuel pump?

Do the injectors spray when cranking, did the wires melt to the injectors, fuse blown, got fuel pressure in the line?

Truck is nearly two hours away and I'll be going to it today. As I recall, one of the plastic tabs on top of one of the injectors looks to be somewhat disfigured. Additionally, I recall being able to move one of the wires leading into plastic tab on top of same injector. Having said that, this vehicle has never given me any problems what's so ever therefore unfamiliare with how tightly the wires leading into the tab should be. Neither injector is spraying fuel into Throttle Body. Because of the distance involved in where the truck is, I have not been able to check fuses but will do so first thing. The Mrs says that good samiritan said fuel pump does go on but she doesn't remember him going under the truck to listen or removing gas cap to listen at filler neck. I have not been there yet myself. One other thing the Mrs. pointed out (as the whole thing scared her to death) was the amount of gas vapor that lingered after the this happened.

The truck is driven very little. It's one of those things where it's "nice to have when you need it" kind of things. When we don't use the truck I start it and let it run every week, take it to the store etc. Prior to this happening, the truck had run 4 or 5 days before this happened.

I know that there is a series of things to check under normal circumstances, I've tried to describe everything in as much detail as possible in the hopes that someone much smarter than me can point me in a direction. We've just moved and replacing things one item at a time could result in hundreds of dollars we just don't have as a result of the move. Thanks for your help
