Adjusting Parking Brake (E-Brake) pedal 6th gen Camry

I have a 2010 toyota camry that needs a parking brake adjustment. the car still stops with the transmission even if the parking brake pedal is pressed down. I changes the pads in the back and it seems to be a little better, but it's not as good as other Camry's i've been in. Can someone direct me to where to look as far as the adjustments go? and possibly how if it's not the usual method. thanks!

As far as I know the parking brake has nothing to do with changing pads. Correct me if I am wrong. On my 2004 LE I have rear drums and the parking brake is mechanical. I have adjusted it couple of times during the life of the car. The process is fairly simple: remove center brake lever cover and tighten the nut.

For your generation the process might be different.

it may not entirely, but i notice the grip changing out to new pads in the rear. when pads are worn out, i suppose it takes a little more pushing of the pedal. i had a brake pedal, not one of the hand brake levers.

If you have rear disc brakes the e-brake is a drum assembly within the rotor on most Camry's that should require no adjustment under normal circumstances. If you have rear drum brakes the rear shoes require periodic adjustment to ensure proper e-brake performance.

The e-brake adjustments on a drum assembly are a periodical adjustment issue. If you have to pull up the e-brake more than 5 or 6 clicks the e-brake requires adjustment. The most effective option is to adjust the rear brake shoes instead of the cable. Raise the rear wheels and adjust the brakes to a slight resistance to turning the wheel after adjustment.
