2001 GS Oil and Coolant Leak

I have a 2001 Buick Regal GS supercharged which I parked in the garage for about a month until finding time to change a bad front wheel bearing.

Upon pulling car out of garage after a long period of no use I noticed that it had leaked about half a coffee cup of oil on the floor. As the engine and exhaust warmed the oil started burning off of the exhaust manifold and block bad enough I was worried about a potential fire.

I removed the plastic cover on the top of the engine and noticed that there seemed to be much oil on the block firewall and transmission side. The top of the motor and crevices below appear also to have puddles of coolant.

I am looking for suggestions / advice. Could it simply be a valve cover gasket and the cooling elbows that I have read about in other posts? Is it much worse with a blown head gasket?

There is no water in the oil. The oil looks clean. The car has 97K on it. The engine has always used coolant and it has been a mystery as to where it disappears.

What to check next??? Any help appreciated. :runaround:

I have the same vehicle (2K model). Last yr. I had similar issues. The coolant level seemed to drop by a few cups in a month's time. Then the leak rate increased over time. I could never spot a leak, even after power washing the engine clean. I finally decided to perform the coolant bypass elbow replacements and it solved the coolant leak. See this post - http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1057592&highlight=coolant+leak

I also had a slow engine oil leak which required a rear valve cover gasket replacement (the front valve cover gasket had already been replaced yrs before in a recall repair.)

check the oil pressure switch for leaking at the electrical connector....check oil filter seal....check drain plug....

Replaced elbows and rear valve cover gasket. Problem solved. Rear valve cover gasket not as bad to replace as it looks. With alternator removed and casting removed that has the elbows just a few more items and was able to remove valve cover. Set of elbows $4 and Felpro valve cover gaskets $45. Aviation sealant helps to hold gasket in place during reassembly. Total time probably about 3 - 4 hours with occasional stops for liquid refreshment.
