i have a 2008 equinox 3.4l. i need to change the stabilizer links and control arm bushings. i would have had it done at the dealer ship where i bought it but the warr expired 2000km ago, and they are so cheep, so how hard or easy is it to change on my own and are they all made the same, like is less money the same as more money. and also is there any website to help out too.

The sway bar links are pretty straight forward to replace, they are different side to side. Why are you replacing the control arm bushings?

the dealership said i needed it, do they wear out easy or are they just trying to get money from me? and one more thing i have a obd2 meter, but the equinox plug is different, is there an addaptor i can buy to add to my obd2

The OBD II connector is a universal 16 pin connector......not sure what your problem is....

Just don't see those bushings wear out very often, not saying yours don't need replaced, just a little unusual.

+1 The control arm bushings don't wear out often.

The older 2005-2007 Equinox used different bushings that GM later revised. GM issued TSB #-07-03-08-004 (posted below) to address complaints of a rattle noise from the front end when going over rough roads for 2005-2007 Equinox. The fix was to replace the rear bushings on the front control arms with revised bushings, but a 2008 would already have said revised bushings. The part number in the TSB has since been superseded to 25919637 and cost about $60/ea from GMPartsDirect

Our Equinox rattles when going over rough roads just like described in the TSB. It also yields a very faint pop when when weight transfers from side to side. The pop can be invoked by moving the steering wheel back and forth at slow speeds, like under 10mph.

I just deal with the noise for now because everything is tight and in good order, but the vehicle is out of warranty.

Your original post did not mention a rattle noise, so wasn't sure why you were after the bushings. The side to side noise is most likley from the sway bar links.

I thought the links could be worn a bit too since the car does have 82K miles on it. It was inspected about six months ago by the Chevy dealership and everything checked out fine. So for the moment I'm not worried about it.

The popping noise is very minor and I have to have everything turned off and really listen to notice it. Not a big deal IMO, but it's something I'm sure someone out there would complain and make a big stink about.

You have to be going just the right speed over a road with just the right roughness to invoke the rattling. So, again it's nothing I'm losing any sleep over.
