Replace Radio Antenna?

(Rant On) Went through a local carwash. They broke off my antenna and the stud. Of course they were not responsible. (Rant Off).
Any suggestions on how to get to the antenna cable on a 2000 Suburban?
I have removed the antenna base, released the antenna cable from the back of the radio and managed to pull out the grommet under the fender but I cannot get the cable to come out to where I can disconnect it. It seems as thought it is secured up behind the ac unit, and I don't see any way to reach in there.
Help!

Not sure about your '00, but on my '98 the antenna cable is only about 6-8 inches long. It then plugs into an extension cable that goes thru the firewall and to the radio.

You will need to take the upper dash trim panel off to access the connection you are looking for. It sits above the HVAC module, like you said.
