Brake Upgrade

I sold my '05 ext cab 5.3 and bought the same thing in an '09 Silverado. Because we tow a horse trailer I was thinking about upgrading the front brakes...the back are drum. I have looked at the 6 piston Brembo and at 4k as a kit it's a little to expensive for me. Is there anything else I can look at. I have the 18" wheel upgrade so that's a plus to start so because I don't want to change the wheels.
Thanks,

as a brake upgrade I would install new shoes and drums. If the vehicle has over 40,ooomiles on it.
check the shoes for wear mostly at the top. if so the drums are worn.
this a 1500 model ? if so I would replace the front struts and spring for a heavy duty component..

I have 28k on the truck and yes it's a 1500. What type of upgrade I'm talking about is the replacement of the rotors and more powerful calipers with more/larger pistons.

I know what your talking about. by installing more brake effort into the front brakes this will screw up the balance between front/rear brake efffort. now the ABS can get messed up especially in wet weather with a load. once ABS starts going you will not stop.
you should inspect those rear drums/shoes. see how worn they are. top of the shoes worn the drums are worn.
also replace those struts and springs . very poor quality. soft steel springs.
